CurrentCurrent Collateral Duties include the following:-Community Liaison Team: Team operates with the focus on educating and interacting with the public. The Department holds a yearly Citizens Police Academy that allows the public to attend and get a more in-depth view on the roles and responsibilities that the police have in society. Other duties could include going to local elementary and high schools to provide demonstrations and assemblies for the students. -Evidence Technician: Received training and certification for the recovery and documentation of evidence from crime scenes from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. Duties include crime scene processing, collection of evidence, documentation and storage of evidence, and courtroom testimony. -Bike Officer: Received training and became certified to preform police duties while on bicycle. Training includes urban riding, slow-speed riding skills, obstacle avoidance, and bike control. -Bicycle Response Team: Received training and became certified in Bicycle Response Teams (BRT). Training included: bicycle deployment and rapid response to areas of civil unrest, riding while utilizing gas masks, and riding in formation as a team. Duties of the team include: being dispatched to passive or aggressive protests, hardening a physical target or location, or individual or VIP escorts. -Field Training Officer: Received training and became certified as a Field Training Officer (FTO). Regular duties of a FTO include 60+ days of conducting training and evaluation of probationary police officers (PPO) or individuals who recently graduated from the police academy. FTO's are required to stay up-to-date on Local, State and Federal laws as well as case law and police procedures. FTO's oversee all training for the PPO's and have to document all aspects of the PPO's progress in daily operation reports.
