About Maxfield Orr

I am a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology with a BS degree in American Sign Language-English Interpreting. I had the opportunity to work for the University both during and after my time as a student there, getting my start in the post-secondary field. I now have 7 years of experience interpreting in a variety of settings. Since graduating in 2017 I've contracted with several interpreting agencies across western NY and gained experience interpreting medical appointments, business meetings, tours, special events, and more. In 2019 I joined Convo Relay and went on to work two years as a VRS interpreter while continuing to freelance. In summer of 2021 I moved back home to California to be closer to family and continue my career on the west coast. I now work from home interpreting VRI, but also commute locally in the Santa Cruz, South and East Bay. I have gained strong experience working with Deaf professionals doing designated work in the higher education, tech, medical, business and conference settings. I passed my NIC certification in July of 2022.Outside of work I'm an avid gardener, writer and digital artist. The queer and trans community are a big part of my life as well. My partner and I enjoy hiking, camping, and training our pup Kai!
