- Designs Ventilation Systems for dust, odour control and contaminant removal systems for process industries including lead recycling plants, waste-water treatment plants, odour control and compost facilities;- Selects and sizes equipment and components of the ventilation systems, such as ductwork, fittings, accessories, dust collectors, fans and stacks;- Develops layouts of the ductwork and equipment, designs hoods to meet ventilation and site requirements;- Develops drawing packages for ventilation systems using AutoCAD and in co-ordination with structural, civil, architectural, electrical, instrumentation and process disciplines;- Reviews and evaluates existing systems for design development and newly built systems for building permits' purpose through field investigations and testing; produces quality reviews and reports;- Ensures the ventilation designs meet ACGIH, SMACNA, NFPA 90, NFPA 820, ASHRAE, OBC, IBC (International Building Code), IMC (International Mechanical Code), OSHA and client requirements related to the ventilation, odour and contaminant removal and noise;- Develops specifications for the systems; reviews contractors' submittals of shop drawings and datasheets, environmental protection plants, construction site setups to ensure submissions meet quality requirements for projects;- Designs supports, calculates ductwork structural loads and develops structural layouts for equipment where applicable;- Coodinates and directs design information to CAD designer(s) to ensure quality drawings and minimal rework; - Supports team members with various designs and calculations.Record of Projects:- Delivered quality design and drawings for new ventilation system for Exide Technologies Inc.' battery recycling plant;- Finalized ventilation design, equipment sizing, drawings and specifications for York region's waste-water treatment plant;- Evaluated ventilation system and contaminant removal of Guelph Compost Facility.
Project #1: Heat Exchanger Replacement, Health Canada site, 1,850,000.00 BTU/h. Designed and sized new plate heat exchanger to replace two old shell and tube ones served steam and glycol system that was converted to hot water system. Provided bid and spec documents. Outcomes: unconditional client approval for meeting the budget and deadlines; one heat exchanger and glycol pump were isolated from existing system providing 60% decrease in demolition and construction & 50% decrease in operational costs of the glycol system.Project #2: Roof Drainage Design for Commercial Centre, 100,000.00 SqF.: Designed new layout, developed bid and spec documents; sized and selected materials & components, co-operating with roof consultants and contractors. Outcomes: meeting project budget and deadlines, elimination of roof leak & related damages. Project #3: HVAC Design, Olympia Steel Building for assembly occupation, 50,000.00 SqF: Proposed ventilation requirements to meet IAQ standards, Integrated client chosen heat pumps with dedicated ventilation system, heat recovery ventilators (HRV); Performed cooling, heating & ventilation load calculations; Sized HRV, heat pumps, inline duct & baseboard heaters; & CO2 controls.Project #4: New Science Lab Fume Hoods (FH), High School: Investigated gas, hot & cold water, acid & sanitary piping, HVAC ducts, ASHRAE standards & codes for FH installation; & Proposed best design for vertical stack, HVAC duct changes. Outcomes: architect adopted the design.Project #5: HVAC Systems for high schools: Cooling, heating and ventilation load calculations using latest ASHRAE software for proposed energy effeciency retrofits for classrooms and gymnasiums; Sizing and selection of rooftop units for precooling and heating applications; Investigation of proposed HVAC systems and upgrades. Combustion air and exhaust system investigation for new Staged Condensate Boiler upgrade. Project in progress.
