About Maxime Charest
I am a Vanier Scholar completing his PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa, looking at the effectiveness of a group couples therapy intervention to improve sexual satisfaction and fulfillment among patients with chronic illnesses and their partners. Broadly, my research focuses on improving the sexual, mental and physical health and quality of life of sexual, gender and relationship minorities, particularly gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men and those affected by HIV. I have a background in biology, religious studies and psychology, with a particular interest in how these fields interact with sexuality and HIV. My undergraduate research focused on heterosexual and LGBTQ+ young adults' sources of sexual health information and confidence in sexual health practices. For my MA, I looked at the health benefits of spirituality for people living with HIV. I also worked at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute for two years conducting clinical research in gay men's health and HIV prevention and care. I hope to keep working with the LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS communities, either through research, counselling, or other opportunities that I may find along the course of my education. Specialties: research, public speaking, sexual health, sex positivity, HIV, biology, religious studies, psychology, higher education.
Listed skills include Research, Public Speaking, Event Planning, Higher Education, and 23 others.

I will also be writing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals based on these findings.
Clinical Research Assistant
I coordinated the local end of two national, multi-site studies in the field of gay men's health and HIV prevention.
