Software Engineer (Contract)Oxford Instruments Jul 2010 - Dec 2011Oxford Instruments NanoAnalysis provides the world’s most popular solutions for materials characterisation on Scanning Electron Microscopes and Transmission Electron Microscopes. I have been working as part of a team on a C# WPF project (Aztec) which involves GUI, backend services and business objects to control and process Microscope Data. Initially I worked on bug fixes in order to understand the system better, I then moved onto adding new functionality to the product. I was also involved in enhancing diagnostic utilities allowing the user to collect diagnostic data in the case of problems with the software or hardware. Majority of the GUI is designed using MVC concepts and we hope to use MVVM concepts on new modules. I have worked on complex bugs that required much research and interaction with team members. For project management we use the Scrum methodology.I also spent four weeks on a C++ project which involved the analysis of 3D material data; my main object was to make the product deliverable for beta testing. In the process I had to rewrite majority of the graphics routines to draw to a device context instead of the screen to increase performance. -
Software Engineer (Contract)Schlumberger Jan 2006 - Apr 2010The PipeSim 2011 project involved several teams located in various locations worldwide and we had to follow strict guidelines in order to produce a consistent look and feel; such as using a global Resource Dictionary for styling of the User Controls, binding data, XAML coding. The advantage of WPF I found was the ability to separate data from the user interface and minimal code behind with the aid of data binding. We follow the scrum methodology with every team member helping the product owner to define user stories and in arriving at estimates for them.I worked on an existing product, ‘PipeSim’, mainly fixing bugs and adding new functionality as required by change requests utilising Visual C++.I investigated another product called Well Surface Modeller (WSM) to see if we could utilise it to create the next generation of PipeSim. This lead to some prototyping of a potential new interface of which some features we used in the new product.I investigated diagramming tools which would allow us to create a rich interactive model builder. I looked at Syncfusion Diagram and Northwoods GoDiagram. I integrated both of the diagram builders into a simple application and the Northwoods GoDiagram tool was highlighted as the superior product. I then went onto create a full version of the diagramming tool in the form of a Windows User Control. This tool is currently part of PipeSim 2011; an Oil and Gas Simulation Solution. PipeSim 2011 has been converted from a C++ application to C# with many new features added along the way. The GUI has been completely rewritten using WPF with an emphasis on MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel) and the business components have been converted from C++ to C#. -

Senior Software EngineerSiemens Vdo Trading Ltd Jun 1999 - Aug 2004I was involved in the development of an Enterprise Internet Service, The online service enables data to be entered and stored into a host database for the analysis of tachograph charts and production of variety of reports. I have been involved in the project from its inception; specification, design, development and testing all through to deployment to the production system.I have been writing Client ActiveX controls in Visual C++ (version 6) utilising MFC and ATL. Prior to the inroduction of .NET technologies ISAPI extentions were used to communicate with the Server; now Http Handlers are used. In addition to ISAPI and HTTP handlers I have also worked on Web Services.I have worked extensively on Windows NT Services developed in Visual C++ and C#. I have worked on GSM data communications where I designed and developed a client server application to download data from remote devices that supported GSM communications.

Software DeveloperBlass Plc Aug 1996 - Aug 1999I was involved in the design and development of a complete business solution for the Fresh Produce Industry. I designed and developed numerous modules including Sales Ledger, Purchase ledger, Pricing Manager, Procure, Sales Order etc. This entailed transforming a legacy system from BASIC on a UNIX platform to a system developed in Visual C++, Delphi, and Crystal Reports running on Windows. One of my roles was developing a user configurable grid that was at the heart of the application; this was written in C++ and allowed users to add, remove and move fields around, making it unique to their organisation. I was also involved in developing Crystal Reports that would be integrated into the system.
