Game Director- ArCinesthesia Oct 2016 - Sep 2017Syros, Southern Aegean, GreeceI was hired as lead game designer for a mobile Augmented Reality game called A-real. It was developed along with a team of 5 people in the confines of "Eye's Walk" Digital festival. The main purpose of the game was to guide players throughout sites of historic importance and natural beauty in the city of Ermoupolis on the island of Syros, Greece. The game featured location based gameplay and rewarded players with local stories from the 1950s. My roles on this project were those of lead game designer, level designer and 3d artist. Games ResearcherUniversity Of The Aegean Aug 2015 - Aug 2017Syros, GreeceResearch through design projects to solve game development problems. I focused on understanding and creating solutions on game industry challenges combining academic literature and feature development. The topics I worked on were:- Designing game levels & mechanics for blind & visually impaired players- Creating designer-directed adapting dynamic difficulty- Publishing research on learning real life skills through AR interactionA standout project from this period was "Hyelight", an action game with bullet hell elements set in a city in the clouds. The game's difficulty is designed using my "Targeted dynamic difficulty adjustment system", it monitors player behavior and optimizes challenges in order to keep players in flow while providing a fair amount of challenge that is based not only on player skill, but on designer-made curves. The goal of the project was to evaluate a new way to approach difficulty creation that does not patronize the player, rather than help them reach their ideal challenge level in every gameplay aspect throughout an area. -
