When I saw the role of HR Business Improvement Manager advertised at the British Museum it immediately appealed. Not only am I supporting the team to plan and deliver a programme of improvements to operational HR processes and systems, I'm doing it in the most wonderful space full of an eclectic and inspiring collection of objects. This is a really interesting time for the Museum and it's great to be involved in shaping the delivery of strategic HR priorities and enhancing the service that we provide to the organisation as it moves forward.

To compliment my HR Consultancy work I became the in-house Head of People at the Crafts Council. Over my two years with the team not only did we successfully pivot our activities to champion craft and support makers during the pandemic, we also opened a new Gallery in central London once restrictions eased. With so much going on for the team, it was more essential than ever to ensure staff were well supported with opportunities to grow and develop and that our culture was engaging, resilient and future facing. My role mixed traditional HR with strategic organisational development and I thoroughly enjoyed supporting the Senior Management Team to develop and embed the Crafts Council’s values and culture.

A major media organisation employing over 1,600 staff across four UK sites plus overseas operations in Australia and the US.Having mainly worked in arts and charitable organisations I moved to GNM to experience life in a larger, more commercially-savvy environment. I had long been an avid Guardian reader and the chance to contribute to their vision and support from the very heart of the organisation was too good to miss. And it certainly didn’t disappoint! Here I was able to maximise my skills in Staff Management, Reward, HR Operations, Project Management, System development and Reporting. Within two years I had doubled my team of direct reports, was working closely with the Group HR Director & CFO to deliver the annual salary review and bonus programmes, completing analysis and presenting findings and recommendations to the CEO, senior leadership team and Board Members. I was also able to propose, implement and project manage new ways of working across our UK, US and Australia operations, lay the foundations for a complete compensation review and keep up with the operational HR activity involved in supporting a team of 1,600 people! After three years I was fortunate enough to secure a sabbatical whereupon another stint of travel ensued this time across South & Central America.

Start-up operation which ran successfully for two years operating a book exchange service to customers across the UK.Having been a voracious reader from youth I decided to develop an online forum to encourage other readers to exchange their books with each other. I took the Book Exchange from concept idea to a Limited Company and managed all aspects of operations inc. website development, stock-control, marketing, finance and reporting.

With artists at the core of the programme Camden Arts Centre (CAC) strives to involve the public in the ideas and processes of today’s artists through a range of contemporary art exhibitions and educational activity. Total staff 60 (of which 30 are volunteers).My time at CAC was exceptionally rewarding allowing me to work alongside the Directors, Board, Artists, Patrons and a fabulous team of colleagues to produce a world-class programme of exhibitions and education events. No two days were the same at CAC and alongside managing the central office plus HR requirements, I also oversaw an overhaul of the organisations IT system, supported with retail & catering strategies, managed an upgrade to the company website and even took two exhibition catalogues to print – one of which sold out of both English and Dutch copies!

Over 100 employees.Following an incredible year of independent travel around Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia I returned to work in another performing arts venue. My role here allowed me to hone my organisational skills at senior level supporting the CEO and Senior Leadership Team. I also acted as de-facto Company Secretary and worked closely with Board members on reviews of the Artistic and Catering functions.

Leading UK operatic production company housed in the historic London Coliseum employing 75 admin staff and over 250 performance and production staff.Working within a small high-performing team I was quickly exposed to all the many elements of HR & Payroll gaining a fantastic understanding of what great HR looks like along the way. After three years moving from Assistant to Administrator and up to Co-ordinator with supervisory responsibility, I had overseen an overhaul of their Payroll system, gained experience of working with three active unions and was responsible for completing everyday HR processes streamlining these wherever possible along the way.
