Profile bio

About Maxine Blake Msc. (Hrm) Mcipd

I am a Masters Degree educated Senior HR Professional with a BSc, MBA & MSc. (HRM) plus Level 7 CIPD qualification gained whilst developing a successful, award winning record in both HR and L&D. My experience includes a variety of both strategic and operational HR/OD roles often with the support of dedicated and collaborative teams. My contracts have ranged from having full responsibility for leading the People function, to leading specific disciplines within it, through to supporting organisations on a business partnering basis. Headcounts have ranged from 120 through to 37,000 and in both public and private sectors. Contract flexibility ranges from 6 month interim roles through to permanent positions depending on the role, location & availability. I love the challenge and responsibility of leadership roles as developing people and culture (and subsequently profit) is something I deliver with passion.I have previously been significantly involved in leading and/or developing and delivering the People Strategy. This has included but not been limited to TUPE, restructures plus other large organisational change processes, drafting and advising on employment contracts and corporate policies/procedures whilst supporting the full employee lifecycle often with a significant focus on Employee Relations. My MSc in HRM specialised in Employment Law, Diversity, HRD & Strategic Business Partnership. My research was focused on maximising opportunities for promoting women into Senior & Board positions - something which continues to remain important to me. One of the reasons that I've been able to significantly impact the organisations in which I've worked are that I've had 15+ plus years in operational management before moving into HR - so having direct people responsibility for up to 42 heads, indirect for over 200, and budgetary responsibility for over £8m. Therefore I understand the challenges that operational management brings, the balance that's required between customer, client and team and how a commercial, risk based HR approach can make a tangible difference to people outcomes and business priorities. The other key differences are that I have an L&D background so facilitating and speaking in front of up to 1200 people (usually smaller groups!) is quite natural for me. In addition, having led Internal Communications and Employee Engagement then delivering positive cultural change is also a passion and something I’ve delivered with pride. Finally, my leaders and peers kindly describe me as passionate, authentic, determined and driven (ESTJ).

Listed skills include Employee Engagement, Training, Performance Management, Human Resources, and 26 others.

Senior Human Resources Business Partner/Interim Head Of Hr

Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Gb

I had the pleasure of managing the Northern and Southern based HR Business Partners plus wider team to help deliver the HR Strategy and People Agenda. This included providing HR support and guidance to Directors and Managers on a range of people related matters. These responsibilities included TUPE, Organisational Design, Restructures, Talent Management, Succession Planning, Employee Relations, Tribunal Case Management and Strategic HR Projects in order to add commercial value to the business. I also had responsiblility for the Group Recruitment Team within SMS Plc where we aimed to only select the best candidates to deliver on our customer and client promises plus corporate expectations. My key accountabilities are those which you would expect; focussing on driving all aspects of the HR Strategy and People Agenda, leading Employment Law and Complex Case Management whilst supporting the wider operation. In my first 3 months, I had already been able to impact a reduction in potential ACAS/Tribunal processes whilst supporting the knowledge and development of the operations team. I had the opportunity during the following few months to be the senior HR professional within the business further enabling me to support them through various ER challenges. SMS PLC are a good company with some dedicated professionals who are constantly evolving to meet both customer and technological requirements - they employ 842 people nationally. I was employed directly with SMS until February 2018 when I handed over to a new interim HR Director and then retained as a consultant until April 2018 to support the transition.
