In 2010, I joined Groupon's Editorial department to fact check roughly 20+ deals per day for accuracy to the featured business. Over the course of a few years, Groupon grew from a small Chicago-based startup to become a global company. After two years working with our customer-facing content, I moved into a role in Groupon's Legal department as an IP Specialist. In this role, I did intake of Groupon's cease and desist letters, coordinated action plans, and collaborated with other departments to resolve the legal issues.In an effort to make the Legal submission process easier for users, my team worked with the Engineering department to develop an electronic form to streamline the process. At this time, I realized I enjoyed working on that project and seeing the behind-the-scenes of how tools are made more than anything else in my role, and was also the accomplishment I was most proud of. It was this discovery that led me to pursue Dev Bootcamp and expand my knowledge in web development. As a student in Dev Bootcamp, I learned how to develop websites both through standard HTML and CSS, as well as more dynamic sites through the use of Javascript, Ruby on Rails, and assorted frameworks. I'm interested in learning more about UI/UX and improving the look and feel of web applications. For my final project, I worked with a team of four students to create a turn-based computer game. The game was built with complex algorithms and utilized Javascript. In addition to helping to write large portions of the game logic, my main role in the project was building out the visual and audio effects.Through my time in DBC, and especially during my final project, I realized that my biggest source of motivation and drive is working with dedicated and passionate teammates to tackle difficult challenges. I'm looking forward to finding an opportunity to work with that same kind of passionate team in the professional world and soak up as much tech knowledge as I possibly can.
