Manufacturing Technology Engineer
Graduate Teaching Assistant
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I am responsible for laboratory-setting instruction methods, formal lectures, and grading of coursework. I have been a TA for two classes so far; ME 121 - Production and Manufacturing Processes, and ME 212 - Mechanical Engineering Design Technologies. ME 121 focuses on the use of HSMWorks and Solidworks to set up toolpaths for CNC Lathe and Milling. This course is in a lab setting where I am required to assist students with developing G-Code, troubleshoot CNC machines, and grade student's submissions. ME 212 focuses on teaching students MATLAB, Solidworks, and Excel for use in an engineering setting. In this course, I am responsible for holding lab sections that resemble formal lectures demonstrating the software. I am given content to cover each week during these lab sessions, but create my own lesson plans in order to effectively prepare the students for upcoming homework and quizzes.
Team Lead / Chief Engineer
I joined the Formula SAE team at South Dakota State University my Junior year as a team member on the engine/drivetrain team, and immediately took on the responsibility of the drivetrain. I also provided my skills as a CAD designer with Creo Parametric as well as a fabricator during the build season for the 2015 car. In my senior year, I took on the role of Engine/Drivetrain Co-Team Lead, which consisted of managing several team members and overseeing all Engine/Drivetrain related tasks. I also continued development on the Drivetrain System as well as the cooling system on the 2016 car. In my first year of Graduate School, I took on the role of Chief Engineer for Wild Hare Racing. In this role, I was responsible for managing the entire team through all subsystems of the car. I also continued development of the Drivetrain System and incorporated a new drivetrain design on the 2017 car, which is shown in the attached image. My involvement FSAE at South Dakota State University has allowed me to develop numerous skills relevant to Mechanical Engineers such as machining, 3D modeling for manufacture, time and project management, and supervisory skills.
Mechanical Design Intern
After my student position ended as a Process Engineer Student due to graduation, I took an internship with Daktronics in the Mechanical Design Department. Here, I continued to develop as a professional engineer in full time setting. My job duties in this internship had some parallels to my previous student position. My main focus in this department was directed towards tooling design, similar to my previous position, but the scope of these projects required me to work outside of my department much more than I had in my previous position. This allowed me to network with many different people both inside and outside of the company.
Process Engineer Student
As a Process Engineer Student at Daktronics, my responsibilities consisted of a variety of engineering tasks including tooling design, data acquisition and analysis for design improvements, machine design for assembly line processes, machine troubleshooting and retrofitting, as well as logistical tasks relating to these assembly line processes. Due to these responsibilites, I gained a very strong foundation in Creo Parametric 3D modeling, as well as designing parts for manufacturability and cost effectiveness. I also gained vital skills in project planning and time management, teamwork skills, and effective communication.
