Upgrading the operating system of a legendary agency was both an incredible opportunity and continued success for the agency in Cannes Lions awards and students who activated prosperous careers online. We introduced digital fluency and experimental ease with tech across every aspect of the agency. Our curriculum inspected all the corners. But students had to be MAKERS, and demonstrate their prototypes to click the concepts into practical problem-solving. - The Fundamentals of the Internet (all those how-does-it-work basics)- Building a site from scratch- Social Media- Content and User Experience- Search Marketing and Search Engine Optimization - Internet Advertising- Web Analytics and Campaign Measurement- Mobile Marketing- Legal IP and Privacy Issues- Crowdsourcing, Transmedia Storytelling and strategic frameworks for implementationWe created immersive edutainment, project-based learning experiences. I wrote our text book chapters; created card games; built our online learning network; taught classes; and learned a MOTHERLODE about marketing, advertising and then researched, verified, experimented with emerging tech to figure out where it would fit into the future of marketing and behaviour change for years to come.And it truly was an excellent adventure, owed to the foresight of Rob Hill (Group Managing Partner, Ogilvy South Africa) and Gavin Levinsohn (Ogilvy Cape Town) who tapped Dave Duarte (my business partner) to birth and lead the enterprise in early 2010,

Creative Commons is an American non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and to share.As a volunteer team in South Africa, our focus was to activate the cultural, scientific and policy application for the legal infrastructure that Creative Commons affords. While our legal lead ported the framework and updates into this jurisdiction, my role was seeding the concept of a more digital and human friendly copyright to publishing, music, film, media, science and business. My specific interest was new business models enabled by a more digitally-attuned IP for advancing innovation across disciplines. But the film and music community came roaring in to activate our earliest and most enthusiastic applications of the licenses in the wild. Huddlemind developed and facilitated customised online learning programmes in alliance with UCT Graduate School of Business. Informing a relevant, business-orientated approach to new technologies through its executive education and MBA programmes for prestigious clients such as Old Mutual, SABMiller, Ogilvy, Johnson & Johnson, First National Bank, Media24, the Unilever Institute and a variety of cross-industry small businesses, startups and non-profits. Luckily, we also grew a vibrant and generously intelligent community on our network. We sought to attract digital educators, but we also attracted pioneers of all stripes who wanted to share how the Web could progress collective intelligence and their own field of expertise.

Started from scratch just after 9/11, Redemption was a thoroughly naiive, accelerated and ultimately successful learning experience. I got to tick off an item on my 101 Things To Do Before You Die list, met and worked with wonderful humans, developed enhanced social skills ... and importantly, discovered what *real work* was. From hiring staff, developing supplier relationships, building customers, the real-time contact with all the exciting problems of both a service and product business on thin margins - a restaurant is a hell of an education.
