THe unit sustained the operations of the Field Artillery Captains Career Course (FACCC) consisting of over 300 students. The FACCC is a career progression course mandated by the Army and provides the necessary education required to command 80-person elements upon graduation. In addition to managing military equipment, I coordinated sustainment operations for all student field exercises and maintained administrative paperwork for the students. As a battalion operations officer, I assisted my team in developing and managing the battalion's operational plans for a 600-person element. My primary duty was generating and disseminating the daily responsibilities for the unit. This required me to develop an effective plan, resource all requirements, effectively communicate the plans to supervisors, and track the progress of the events. Whenever a friction point occurred, I was there to deescalate the situation and solve the issue. In the absence of the operations supervisor for the 600-person element, I directed and managed efforts. Supervised a 22-person element that was responsible for maneuvering and firing artillery cannons. The foundation of my job focused on planning, resourcing, and executing training and military operations. My specific duties included maintaining the firing capability of three cannons, supervising the displacement, movement, and occupation of the element, maintaining equipment readiness, managing ammunition expenditures, and reporting all unit activity to higher units. In training environments, I utilized cost-benefit and risk analysis to develop optimal training plans that gradually prepared my soldiers for combat conditions. I was ultimately deployed to Afghanistan with my unit and transitioned my soldiers to an Infantry mission set in which we provided security for high ranking Army and government officials. My duties entailed mission preparation that accounted for logistical support, risk assessment of security positions and vehicle routes, casualty treatment contingencies, and coordination with Afghan and NATO forces. Additionally, I possessed responsibility of all actions taken by my element when acting independently on mission. This required me to manage an 18-person element that maintained 24-hour reporting and information collection. My responsibilities as an intelligence officer included debriefing platoon leaders after they returned from mission, reporting intelligence they gathered to higher and adjacent units, and collaborating with intelligence agencies on the data collection to direct future operations.
