I have just finished earning my B.S. in Computer Science, and I have been working as an after-school programming and robotics instructor for about one year. In my studies I have worked on many surface level projects from AI to full stack web development, but my passion lies in game development. I am almost entirely self-taught despite having a degree in CS as most of the projects I worked on had requirements for the output and finally results, but had little in the way of mentorship and comprehensive learning. I say this, not to complain about or put down my educators in any way, but to show that I have the patience, understanding, and ability to solve any problem I am presented with.My mantra for software engineering is this: even though I may not know what is needed right now, I also know learning what is needed simply takes time and effort. My crowning achievement of this can be seen on my GitHub profile in my senior project, Volunteerise. Prior to implementation I had been aware of but never used HTML, CSS, NodeJS, React/React Bootstrap, ExpressJS, MongoDB, or Mongoose. In less than 2 months, I taught myself enough about all of these and more to help build Volunteerise, a MERN stack web application intended to connect volunteers to non-profit organizations to help boost community involvement in local charity events. I like to refer to the project as my disaster-piece. It is currently incomplete and is maybe another month of development and polish away from being considered for deployment, but there's a first time for everything and this project is everything for the first time. I'm proud to have been its Project Lead and am even more proud to look back on everything I learned in such a short time.Today, I am actively seeking employment in any and every aspect of software engineering with an emphasis on positions in game development while simultaneously continuing to teach children the basics of Python, robotics, and automation.
