Max Dillon completed his Master of Urban and Regional Planning at Virginia Tech in May 2022. Energized to discover innovative methods to minimize the negative economic, environmental, and social impact of growth and change, he accepted an Urban Planner position with the City of Salem where his goals include integrating collective decision making between government leaders and local stakeholders while also fostering a just and sustainable community. As an undergraduate student at Virginia Tech, Max earned two degrees including a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Policy and Planning and a Bachelor of Arts in Smart and Sustainable Cities. In addition to graduating summa cum laude in both disciplines, Max claimed inductions into Phi Kappa Phi and Gamma Theta Upsilon, and he was the recipient of the 2021 American Planning Association (APA VA) Outstanding Virginia Tech Senior. Earning a minor in Geography, he has completed several courses in Geographic Information Systems and as a result, he is proficient in many relatable applications including ArcGIS and QGIS. An experienced and respected leader, Max was employed as a VT Graduate Assistant serving as a liaison between faculty and students while also participating in extensive research projects exploring various environmental and sustainability issues. His outside employment as a VHSL Basketball Official highlights his proficiency as a collaborative, effective communicator. In his extensive student employment with VT Recreational Sports, he served as a Supervisor focused on training, managing, and developing student staff to foster an inclusive community which promotes health initiatives to over 8,500 Hokies.Please see the attached resume for additional information.
