This position started in June 2019 and will last until Mid-October or sooner. This opportunity has given me the knowledge in Municipal separate storm sewer systems, or MS4s, and their designs. I often had to locate storm sewer outfalls and perform inspections on them. This can be tricky as some are in dense vegetation or underwater. I have used GIS and Scanned As-builts to georeference where hidden outfalls and storm pipes are located. I have also performed inspections on BMPs, wetlands, and infiltration basins for invasive species, signs of erosion, and effectiveness on drainage. This has allowed me to become familiar with native plants in Minnesota which includes pollinator plants. This position has given me the knowledge on permitting and general county procedures with the state and other governing bodies.

I have had a year-long city planning internship with the City of River Falls, where I have fined tuned my skills with ESRI Arc GIS v10.5. This position mostly involved the use of map making with ESRI and the use of Adobe Illustrator for better looking maps. Another skill I grew in this position is networking. I often-times had done work for other departments as I proved I can output maps quickly and correctly which gave me extra time. I have done work outside the office with the police department and a local land trust with maps involving crime statistics and erosion control along the Kinnickinnic River. Lastly, I have been involved with public events for the city and have spoken at a city council meeting for a summer long project I had done.
