Designed and implemented improvements to the network architecture to enhance network management and security by moving several stand-alone servers into a VMware architecture. Security enhancements included improving authentication to network devices by integrating a central identity store to the existing RSA 2-factor authentication method. The network equipment that was managed included Cisco routers and switches, load balancers, and a variety of firewall, IDS, NTP, DNS and other network appliances. The design consisted of Red Hat LINUX and Windows virtual servers hosted in a high-availability VMware environment. The network management and security tools included: CiscoWorks, Cisco Secure ACS, RSA Authentication Manager for 2-factor authentication, syslog-ng, and secure LDAP integration with Active Directory. Also designed and tested a DNSSEC solution to meet OMB M08-23 requirements.

At a government site, assisted the government ISSM by reviewing numerous system designs and system security plans from an engineering perspective. This was a senior position that required close work with customers to ensure their systems met DCID 6/3 and other government standards. The engineering security work included reviewing numerous network designs, detailed firewall implementations, network encryption methods, operating systems configurations, and applications. Assisted customers with locking down Solaris, Linux, and Windows systems, in order to pass government security scans. Designed a program to protect laptops. Wrote WMI visual basic scripts and helped customers improve their designs that didn’t meet government standards.

On a part-time basis one night per week, taught classes to University students. Classes included: Windows 2003 Server, Cisco CCNP, Windows 2003 Network Design, and Windows 2003 Active Directory Design. Received top ratings from students and high recommendations from the Dean.
