Graduate Research Assistant
My work has been centered on enhancing the fuel efficiency of signalized corridors through the application of traffic simulation, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication. I collaborated with a Department of Energy researcher to integrate the first NEMA-style traffic signal controller into SUMO using C++, a project that necessitated regular contributions to open-source traffic simulation software. Additionally, I developed a framework for parallelized simulation and sensitivity analyses of SUMO digital twin using Ray & Python, which allowed for more efficient and accurate traffic simulations, by making it easier to capture ranges of stochastic outputs. My research also led to the creation of a Python library for applying reinforcement learning to SUMO using OpenAI Gym and Ray RLLib.I have also delved into the realm of data fusion and Kalman filtering. I implemented track-to-track data association and fusion techniques for partially overlapping road-side radars using Rust & Python. This work involved the application of Kalman filtering, a powerful algorithm used for estimating the state of a system based on noisy measurements. Through this project, I gained a deep understanding of the principles of data fusion and the practical application of Kalman filtering in real-world scenarios.
Dev Consultant
Staff Consultant
At Hanson, I served as a Part-time Software Engineer and Special Consultant, working remotely to develop Python & NextJS web apps for tracking bridge movement, river gauge, temperature, and HVAC systems. This role required a high level of technical proficiency, as well as the ability to work independently and manage my time effectively as I worked on my PhD in parallel.
Graduate Research Assistant
During my tenure as a Graduate Research Assistant at Green Last Mile, I worked remotely with an international team from MIT/IBM, ITU Denmark, and Kale Collective. We estimated travel and service time using raw GPS recordings from cargo-bikes in London & Brussels. I also processed Amazon datasets to extract delivery van travel and service times in five U.S. cities. One of my significant contributions was the implementation of a state-of-the-art geospatial embedding model in PyTorch using Uber’s H3 hexagonal geospatial index. This work involved extensive exploratory data analysis, feature selection, and model selection for probabilistic service time prediction.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
I spent my summer with the design engineering department, where I worked mainly in the PTC Creo suite. My responsibilities ranged from drawing revisions to the design of a hub motor mating tool. Along the way, I also headed an engineering change required because of an installation interference. A solution was found using 3D-scans of the component and 3D-printed prototypes
Operations Management Intern
Working part-time, I maintained a full course load while completing my internship. I was a member of a tandem team to develop a engineering change tracking solution for a tier one automotive supplier. The tracking tool was developed after mapping the supplier's process and implemented in SharePoint. I communicated with the customer to write tool requirements and refine the change process. I worked with the project manager to write and develop project proposals.I developed custom Quality Issue reporting tools in MS Excel Visual Basic and created a Project Profitability Excel tool to analyze project profitability trends.
Product Lifecycle Management Intern
- Communicated daily in German on a professional basis - Tracked and drove product changes for upcoming SUV model years - Analyzed and reported on quality issues from internal and external sensors - Assisted in Black-Belt analysis of a critical quality issue - Participated in multiple management decision rounds - Performed part number level analyses to drive maturity
Engineering Intern
• Helped to ensure that part and tooling project milestones are met for new car line and model year change• Helped to validate supplier timing and part readiness information• Helped to coordinate cross-functional alignment between suppliers and various MBUSI departments for optimized local supplier support• Developed reports to escalate critical topics in management review meetings• Developed a report linking separate stages in the engineering change process
Systems Modeling And Simulation (Sms) Lead
• Developed hybrid vehicle model for implementation in software and hardware-in-loop tests• Managed team activities to test and develop control algorithms and increase model fidelity • Developed test cases for functionality and drivability tests • Managed team members in order to meet deadlines• Developed softECUs for implementation in virtual model• Combined and wrote .dbc files for CAN controllers• Developed control strategies for a hybrid electric vehicle
Business Associate
• Hired, trained, and managed several employees• Made product and display decisions based off market trends• Interacted with customers and dealt with complaints • Drove company vehicle and gained more responsibility every year• Developed skills to manage responsibilities effectively and efficiently
