At the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), I teach face to face and distance education programmes for diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate students. My main focus for all programmes is to facilitate the learning of pedagogical content knowledge relevant to the teaching of dance in secondary schools and the private sector for dance education. I supervise undergraduate dissertations for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and supervise students on teaching placement. On an annual basis, I update a variety module outlines which I coordinate. This enables me to ensure that the modules use contemporary resources; the content and assessment criterion is still reflective of their aims and learning outcomes. In addition, I participate in periodic reviews for the above programmes, whereby significant and appropriate changes can be made to the modules offered on each programme. The exercise ensures programmes are of appropriate quality and standard and fit for purpose. In addition, the exercise considers the programmes’ future development. I am the Level Coordinator for second year distance education undergraduate students. I manage their academic and pastoral needs through proactive liaisons with other academic members of staff. For example, I check that there are no anomalies on all assessments of their modules by ensuring consistency, parity and adherence to the specifications of a programme. Students are encouraged to complete their Personal Development Plans so that they can receive guidance and support on establishing appropriate study programmes. I represent academic staff in the Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC). This is a student led committee whereby they can discuss any issues which affect their studies. I offer advice and ensure issues raised in the meeting can be addressed by the appropriate member of staff in a timely manner.
