Optimize the utilization of instrumentation and controls, including control valves, level, temperature, pressure and flow meters, and electrical control equipment. Engineered and maintained these instruments to perform in the most efficient and effective manner, reduce maintenance costs and increase operating profit.Accomplishments:• Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS) Upgrade- Converted obsolete Fisher-Provox DCS to currently supported DeltaV DCS.- Implemented electronic marshalling including full hardware overhaul and power distribution.- Oversaw testing and troubleshooting of over 6000 Input/Output (I/O) loops.- One of two project managers involved with design, implementation, and documentation.- Managed 50+ team members including technicians, craft hands, and contractors over a 100 day shutdown period.- Successfully commissioned new system to operate and maintain the facility.• DeltaV Safety Instrumented System (SIS) Implementation- Converted multiple existing safety systems including PLC-5, High Integrity Protection System (HIPS), and Baileys into a centralized DeltaV SIS system.- Managed over 200+ safety interlock tests to ensure plant runs in a complete safe manner.- Tested and witnessed all 200+ safety interlocks before putting all equipment back into service.• Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Upgrade- Migrated obsolete PLC-5 PLC to currently supported Controllogix PLC for extruder systems.- Engineered more efficient control system by minimizing failure points and upgrading instrumentation.- Installed and redesigned new HMI’s to help operators monitor equipment more efficiently.

- Participated in daily trouble shooting of electrical instruments and equipment in the acids unit.- Worked on upgrading the cooling water pump motor from 600 HP to 800 HP.- Prepped for the 2015 turnaround by analyzing control valve data.

Projects:Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) Plant DCS & SIS; and Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer. -Utilized CEA and Excel spreadsheets to get instrumentation data into SAP, verified I/O against P&ID’s and created instrument specification sheets.Sludge Press Replacement Project -Verified and marked up existing cabinet and motor wiring.Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) DCS Upgrade Project -Learned CEA Plant-4D E&I Net software to generate the instrument index and loop drawings. -Marked up motor schematics, verified I/O against P&ID’s, utilized Excel spreadsheets to import data into CEA and assigned DCS I/O.Other projects: installed a new power panel (specified transformers, MCC main breaker and cable); designed and laid out new wireless system utilizing Emerson DeltaV HART wireless I/O card.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship at NIST, Gaithersburg, MD.- Conducted a project: Highly charged ions in extremely compact Penning Traps.- Designed and built a Rubidium Atomic Oven.
