Hi everyone! My name is Maya, and I recently graduated with a Master of Science degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Before that, I graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a Bachelor's in Honors Journalism.My journalistic interests lie in long-form storytelling and feature writing. I’ve written extensively on healthcare, gender and sexuality issues, and reproductive medicine for various college publications. My most recent works covered New York’s Adult Survivors Act, an in-development male contraceptive pill, and the disparities female gynecological surgeons face as a result of the surgical reimbursement system.I’m also an experienced editor, having worked as an associate editor for Her Campus Carleton, an online publication dedicated to lifestyle and wellness. Additionally, I was a content editor and writer at Upkeep Media, where I published articles and listicles for property management firms using CMS and applying SEO strategies.Just before starting my year at Columbia, I wrapped up working as a media analyst for the Privy Council Office of Canada, where I produced media analyses on a variety of issues relevant to the federal government by monitoring the news through print, broadcast, and social media.​Adept at all things digital production, I’m well-versed in Adobe Suite software, video and audio production, website builders, and social media management programs.
