As a post-doctoral fellow and researcher at CEDEJ Cairo, I’m turning my PhD thesis on refugee entrepreneurship in the Mashreq region into a book.

As a consultant, I support projects implemented by international organizations, working both with the private sector, international organisations and governments. Clients are diverse ranging from international organizations such as the International Labour Organization, foundations such as Al Ghurair Foundation and startups. I also provide assessments that follow strategies that I help co-design with senior executives. I also translate strategies into activities within international frameworks (e.g UN Sustainable Development (Goals). As such I offer consultancy services in subject matter expertise in migration, entrepreneurship, gender empowerment and civil society support. I believe in tech-enabled solutions and I have also worked with different types of private sector organizations, including startups and small and medium enterprises.

Through my doctoral research, I evaluated Syrian refugees’ entrepreneurial trajectories in Jordan and Egypt. My goal was to better understand refugees’ entrepreneurial trajectories in forced migration through a transformation and utilization of social, cultural, economic, symbolic and human capital. The doctoral research took place in the form of “research in action” through a two years participative observation at Luminus Education in Jordan, one of the leading “education for employment and self-employment” social enterprises in Jordan. The Jordanian case study was followed by a two-year ethnographic analysis on Syrian refugee entrepreneurs in Egypt. The comparative analysis included:• Collection of data via Impact Assessments at Luminus Education and participative observations of development projects co-designed and implemented by Luminus Education; • Reviewed policies and programs that impacted refugees’ entrepreneurial trajectories in Jordan and Egypt;• Participated to seminars and engaged with researchers on existing findings/research similar to the PhD topic (e.g urban transformations in migration and forced migration)

Managing the expansion project of Luminus Education Group in North Africa. The project focused on replicating Luminus Technical University College in Tunisia and adapting its Education for Employment (E4E) model that was successfully launched in Jordan. The project sought to expand the E4E model to other Arab countries with a first geographic focus in North Africa (Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt). Luminus Education is Jordan’s leading provider of technical and vocational education. It was established 38 years ago offering diplomas in various technical and vocational fields. Luminus' model is based on the Education for Employment (E4E) approach that seeks to provide education according to the level of demand and the skills required in the market. Luminus also provides education and employment opportunities to the undeserved communities in the MENA region including refugees. It seeks to become the first Education for Employment institution in the Arab region. Responsibilities include :o Establishing social & economic impact framework, indicators and tech-enabled assessment of the organisation o Participating to business development and donor engagemento Managing the regional expansion of Luminus Education into North Africa

Project Manager - Elan RDCELAN RDC is a £50 million DFID-funded market development programme in the DRC. The programme uses a market systems approach to facilitate pro-poor economic growth in the DRC covers four broad geographical regions and six sectors of the economy.The programme collaborates with private sector businesses in five primary areas: (1) SMEs Access to Finance, (2) Branchless Banking, (3) Renewable Energy, (4) Perennial and Non-Perennial Agriculture, and (5) River Transports, to trial and to scale innovative and inclusive business practices that aim to increase the incomes of over 1 million poor smallholders producers, entrepreneurs, and consumers by the end of 2020.- Programme Management lead on Political Economy and Conflict Analysis, Markets in Crisis, Business Enabling Environment, Branchless Banking, Transport and Perennial Agriculture and provincial portfolios covering Equateur, North and South Kivu provinces with direct management of up to 15 full-time staff and numerous national and international short-term consultants- Key responsibilities: - Human Resources and supervision of over 90 project staff - Member of Senior Management Team making technical strategy and management decisions on a portfolio of interventions - Support and coordination of communications team for the development and delivery of the communication strategy- Coordination of humanitarian cash transfers in DRC through mobile money
