About Maya Griffith
I am a junior at the University of Miami, originally from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, majoring in Psychology Pre-med with a double minor in sociology and gender and sexuality studies. I currently serve as the treasurer of the Jamaican Student Association with the goal of educating the UM community on Jamaican history, culture, and heritage. I plan to attend medical school to pursue a career as a Psychiatrist. In this career, I hope to give back to communities without adequate mental health services to decrease stigmas and improve the quality of life of those individuals who are knowingly and unknowingly suffering from mental conditions.I have a strong passion for science and am grateful to have had many opportunities to cultivate that passion in research labs. I am currently an intern at Oregon Health and Science University studying pancreatic cancer in cachectic mouse models. I enjoy working alongside researchers at the forefront of their fields and witnessing scientific breakthroughs.In my free time, you can find me relaxing, reading a fun book, or working on a puzzle. As I continue on my journey through college, I am looking forward to the many opportunities this next chapter of life will offer.
