Product Design Engineer, Chomerics Division
CurrentThe Chomerics division of Parker Hannifin is a Global Leader in Thermal Interface Materials and EMI Shielding Solutions. As a Product Design Engineer, I regularly support design for manufacturing, tooling design, and process development for our Integrated Display Solutions product line. I also am the lead engineer for a key customer project, supporting purchasing, process development, and creating drawing packages for the parts. Furthermore, I am championing the initiative to incorporate additive manufacturing into our production processes.
Engineering Leadership Development Associate, Engineered Materials Group
CurrentThe Engineering Leadership Development Program provides recent graduates in engineering and science disciplines the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be Parker's leaders of tomorrow. The program accelerates an Associate's development through cross-functional and cross-group rotations that educate future leaders on Parker's culture, business structure, and operational functions while providing exposure to the customers and products of various Parker Hannifin operating divisions. In addition to learning about and supporting various product lines and manufacturing processes, I led a cohort of Leadership Development Associates in developing a framework for Design for Environment to be rolled out across the Company.
Fabrication Specialist
I helped students of various educational backgrounds learn to design and fabricate class- and passion-projects. I facilitated student use of various machines in the makerspace including 3D printers, laser cutters, and soldering irons, as well as wood machine tools, helping to repair these machines, when necessary. Overall, I and the other Nolop staff members fostered an encouraging and collaborative space for student use.
Mechanical Engineering R&D Intern
I contributed to the team's efforts to redesign the OmniPod, Insulet's patch-pump technology. I improved an existing prototype of a mechanism to change the fluid path in a new pump design, performing calculations in Matlab, modeling in SolidWorks, and testing my prototype using an Instron. I also examined the effectiveness of fluid seals in the pump using Ansys.
Undergraduate Researcher, Hardware Team
I investigated the use of soft robotics in wearable robotic devices. I modeled and tested various designs for silicon actuators that I have made using 3D-printed and laser-cut molds. I also worked with the Design Team to create the first prototype of a soft robotic exosuit that will improve posture.
Microscopy Intern
The Eisai Center for Genetics Guided Dementia Discovery (G2D2) is a focused drug discovery research site committed to accelerating the discovery of innovative therapeutics to eradicate Alzheimer's disease. As a Microscopy intern, I performed immunohistochemistry to characterize a new line of transgenic mice. I sectioned, stained, and imaged wild-type and transgenic brains on a confocal microscope. I then analyzed the images using SpineTool and Imaris to compare the size, shape, and number of various cell types in the tissue sections.
Student Teacher Outreach Mentorship Program (Stomp) Fellow
Teaching engineering concepts to students at West Somerville Neighborhood School, I worked with a partner to develop and implement weekly curricula in the classroom for the Fall and Spring semesters. Curricula have included the introduction of areas of engineering to the students through current events, the introduction of various aspects of Human Factors and Design through Disney films, and the use of various aspects of engineering for problem solving through a Journey to the Center of the Earth theme.
Research Assistant
As a Summer Research Assistant I wrote a research proposal and was awarded funding from Tufts University Undergraduate Research Fund to study the effectiveness of PEDOT:PSS coating on microelectrode arrays (MEAs) in measuring electrical activity in cultured neurons.Neurons fire in ways that mimic electrical impulses and micro-electrode arrays (MEAs) capture the neuronal activity. I studied whether the PEDOT:PSS coating is better than gold for accurately measuring the electrical activity of neurons.
Research Assistant
The DevTech Research Group aims to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education for young children with a focus on computational thinking and engineering. As a research assistant, I developed curriculum to teach bioengineering concepts of CRISPR/Cas-9 gene editing technology to children aged 5-8 using CRISPEE, a simple age-appropriate tool which allows children to play with genetic programs to solve problems. I also created activities to assess children’s learning of programming and sequencing, engineering design process, biology, and ethics. This project culminated in a week long workshop where we implemented our program and assessed CRISPEE’s effectiveness.
