About Maya Moore

I am a social scientist with a focus on food security and nutrition, biodiversity conservation and the gendered dimensions of climate change adaptation among smallholder farmers. With 20 years of international conservation and development experience, I've worked across West Africa (Niger), Madagascar, Southeast Asia (Thailand) and Central America (Guatemala). In my current position as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Columbia University's Climate School, I am exploring the gendered dimensions of climate information services in Guatemala and sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), as well as seed adoption in SSA and India.Holding a transdisciplinary PhD in Food Systems and a graduate certificate in Agroecology, along with a MA in Sustainable International Development and a BS in Biology and French, my academic background is robust and multidisciplinary.My dissertation research focused on food procurement strategies and agricultural decision-making among forest-edge smallholder farmers in Madagascar. Other research interests include gender dimensions of climate change adaptation and climate change's impact on farmer livelihoods, health, and migration.My specialties include: Qualitative & quantitative research, survey design and implementation, socio-psychological models, Structural Equation Modeling, project development, fundraising, grant-writing and tracking, donor relations, communications/brand development, event planning, nonprofit start-up, problem solving and logistics in challenging environments.Let's connect and collaborate on innovative solutions for a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable future!
