Camp Longhorn Pit Stop is a clinic that provides 24 hour services to over 300 Camp Longhorn summer camp attendees and staff with ages ranging from 8-22. Staffed with an excellent staff of Registered Nurses and students to provide basic first aid and medications to campers and counselors. This 3 week long experience allowed me to gain invaluable experience in pediatric care, medication administration of campers home meds, as well as standing orders for basic medications. I was able to complete assessments on a daily basis, as well as learn to effectively communicate with children of various ages. As a Nurse Aide, I was responsible for maintaining bedside charts through an electronic health record, assisting patients in daily care, including toileting, bathing, and ambulation.
