About Maya Rudd
My current position is as a Mechanical Design Engineer at BAE Systems, Inc. Space & Mission Systems (formerly known as Ball Aerospace). I work in Mechanical Solutions, specifically within the space-based Mechanisms group. At BAE/Ball, I have proven myself as an effective junior engineer with a very well rounded base of skills and experiences. I graduated from CU Boulder in May ‘21 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a minor in Global Engineering. While at CU, I took strong interests in aerospace, design, humanitarian engineering, and the outdoor industry. Throughout my education, I recognized that engineering is an ever-increasingly globalized field, and prepared myself with the interpersonal and leadership skills to be able to work effectively with people from all backgrounds. I see great value in understanding the impacts of engineering from a global scope, and a more business oriented perspective.I believe that some of my greatest strengths are my persistence, interpersonal skills, ability to grasp new concepts quickly, and work ethic. While a full time senior, I also worked as both a rapid prototyping lab specialist and as a competitive rock climbing coach, and concurrently held the position of President of the CU Climbing Team. I now focus my efforts into my full time aerospace engineering job; taking on a diverse portfolio of responsibilities, jumping on any leadership opportunities that arise, and learning new things every day from some of the best mentors in the industry. I spend my time outside of work training for rock climbing and pursuing many other outdoor sports, giving back to the STEM community, enjoying time with my Colorado friend-family, and always looking out for what’s next.Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Security Clearance (with Polygraph)

Created content for social media platforms, volunteered at events such as Outdoor Retailer, provided feedback for product development, and represented the brand through use of their equipment and apparel.
Cad Engineer - L3Harris/Cu Boulder Senior Design Project
Through CU Boulder’s Mechanical Engineering Dept., my Senior Design team was selected to collaborate with L3Harris on their project, Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Weather Station. The objective was to support L3Harris with the US Space Force's Space Domain Awareness effort to expand and enhance current ground-based space surveillance systems by creating a deployable weather station that provides accurate and real time weather data, capable of surviving in various locations all over the world, often in extreme conditions. As CAD Engineer, my role pertained to delegating, coordinating, and managing all tasks related to CAD; including revision control, ensuring sound mechanical design of physical components and their integration into the system, and FEA.
Cu Boulder Idea Forge Rapid Prototyping Lab Specialist/Student Staff
Hands-on position at on-campus collaborative space helping students and full-time staff to design & build projects utilizing facility’s machine shop and makerspace. Specialized during my senior year as a student staff member specific to the rapid prototyping facilities (constant work with laser cutters and many types of 3D printers).
Youth Climbing Coach
Provided youth climbers with the skills and support they need to grow as individuals and athletes, and set them up to fulfill their potential in competitive climbing by offering years of expertise as a longtime community leader.
Team President
The CU Climbing Team is a highly competitive team of rock climbers, all passionate about competition rock climbing and climbing outside. Our mission is reflected in the team motto: "We strive to build and maintain a community of those committed to improving themselves as climbers and as individuals". We competed in USA Climbing's Collegiate Climbing Series at the local, regional, and national level.Personally as Team President, I lead the team by example and made sure that the board of directors was upholding the mission and values of the team. As a board, we managed a highly functional, professional, and reputable completely student-run organization. We were trusted by local gyms and international brands alike to represent them as sponsors for our team. In 2020, I had just been elected President right before COVID hit. I had to rapidly adapt to new circumstances and put immense effort and creative thinking into how we could run a sports organization during a pandemic to still provide students with an outlet during difficult times. I came up with unique solutions such as using an app to implement and track health checks, and negotiated with our host gym on how we could still run practices while prioritizing safety. In conjunction with the timing of the COVID pandemic was many of the key protests during the Black Lives Matter movement. During my time as President, the board of directors and I worked diligently to learn how we could support in our community, and ended up deciding to donate our funds that we would have used for Nationals (which was cancelled due to the pandemic) to organizations working hard to support underrepresented groups within the climbing community.
Engineering Intern
In this position, I worked on a sustainability project involving the recycling of ski boot materials, with the focus being on how all parts of the boot can be recycled and repurposed after the life of the boot. The main part of the project was looking into the possibility of repurposing the plastic to be used as 3D printing filament. This was an independent research project, supervised and overseen by the Ski Boot Engineering Manager, and advised by other design engineers. Through this experience, I was able to apply my engineering knowledge and communication skills to a research project and work hands-on at K2's development facility with full-time engineers.
Assistant To Senior Design Lab Engineer
Lead solo project for improvements for lab’s testing equipment including manufacturing 80-20 enclosures designed in Solidworks for Instron Machine/Shock Tower, created bill of materials for the project, applied for and received Engineering Excellence Fund grant for the improvements.
