My counselling experience includes volunteering at YCS in Cardiff during my placement and now counselling position at the TCS group.At both YCS and TCS, I have been able to create strong and trusting therapeutic relationships with these individuals. I have conducted counselling sessions with clients to discuss a range of mental health issues including depression, general anxiety, health anxiety and relationship issues.Through my training I have learnt the importance of diversity and equal opportunities. This included looking at our own values, beliefs and experiences and how they differ from others and learning to truly appreciate and embrace difference. I have also conducted work that involved experience of working with a third party when counselling such as an interpreter. I found this extremely valuable and this certainly added to my knowledge and understanding.Over the past year and a half I have had considerable experience of working both face to face and virtually in response to the COVID pandemic. Through both mediums I have been able to conduct effective and successful work with my clients, adapting my practice accordingly to support clients. This has resulted in receiving positive feedback from numerous clients.Volunteering at YCS and working at TCS has enabled me to work as part of a team with other counsellors and my managers, as well as allowing me to work independently to conduct confidential and ethical work with my clients. Additionally, I have learnt to keep accurate and confidential notes on YCS's OASIS and TCS’s Sincharta record system and am able to manage my own appointments with clients when needed, being flexible and client focused in order to meet their circumstances.Thank you for taking the time to read this.
