About Maya Shea
The first time an interviewer said, "Tell me about yourself," I stared at them wide-eyed and dumbfounded. How do I fit my childhood joys, greatest passions, biggest fears, and strongest values in a 2 minute introduction? Even worse, LinkedIn only gives me 2,600 characters. Let's get started.Childhood joys. Most took place in the classroom. I lit up in math class, especially during those "aha" moments of algebra where I developed my love for problem solving. My 6th grade English class showed me the impact of putting words to paper to ignite a spark in another human being.Greatest passions. My heart has taken me all over the map as I'm called to fight and advocate for communities in need. Most recently, this is in the pediatric healthcare setting, as I led a movement of college students in fundraising for the future generation. The passion comes through witnessing human connection, love, service and leadership development occur simultaneously.Biggest fears. Truthfully and embarrassingly, it's fish. Everything about them terrifies me, from their eyes to their underwater lifestyle. However, I actively choose to snorkel whenever the opportunity arise (it's been 6 times now). This choice to step out of my comfort zone translates to all different areas of my life where I get to experience growth only in discomfort.Strongest values. Community, commitment, connection. I believe in the power of people coming together and amplifying each other's voices. I believe in following through with your commitments and staying true to your word. I believe we are meant to connect with other human beings, serving them and loving them in the best way we know how.To sum up, I was considered a nerd in elementary school, I lead with my heart, fish make me want to jump out of my skin, and I give purpose to every interaction I have with another human. I bring all of me, fear of fish included, into very room I enter in hopes of cultivating an environment where people feel like they can bring their whole self too.
