Customer Admin Support

Sofia

I see working for easyProperty.com as another opportunity to be part of an international team of young professionals. What is more, being a UK based company, it provides a work environment which ensures a hands-on experience of British business code of conduct and communication standards. EasyProperty.com is a relatively new but fast growing company, which allows for a lot of dynamism as well as space for creativity and active participation in the facilitation of recently launched processes - an opportunity which I have not hesitated to take in every occasion. My main tasks in working as a customer admin support assistant is creating, proofreading and editing property adverts as well as maintaining good communication with clients and a network of colleagues in fulfilling various types of orders. Shortly after starting work at the company I have been entrusted with the training of newcomers in our team and have myself been continually trained to process all possible requests and tasks in order to act as back-up for colleagues. This employment has helped me further develop my technical and digital skills, having to use various cloud-based platforms, such as Salesforce and Zendesk. In creating content, I have developed my research skills, as well as an ability to strictly follow templates and pay attention to details with regard to essential information.

External Communications Trainee

Brussels Area, Belgium

Being selected to do a traineeship at the European Commission among thousands of applicants from all over the world was a huge success on its own. I was chosen to be part of the External Communication team of Directorate General for Interpretation and got an intensive hands-on experience in an international and multicultural environment, which improved significantly my organizational and multitasking skills. Work was extremely dynamic and demanding in terms of creativity, punctuality and being fully present in the tasks performed. On day-to-day basis I was responsible for managing the unit’s social media platforms, i.e. Facebook and Twitter. I was also given the chance to establish the presence of the unit on a new social media channel – Instagram, which took off extremely well. Another responsibility I had was production of podcasts for the unit – I met several interpreters working for the EU institutions and recorded interviews with them, which I then edited and uploaded on the unit’s web site. Another huge chunk of my tasks was helping in the designing and hosting of a number of events within the EU Commission, following the mechanics of Art of Hosting methods (a.k.a. as Participatory Leadership), in which I was fully trained. The topics varied – from university conference, to migration forum, an equal opportunities and inclusion convention, women in transport and road safety seminars, communication conferences as well as team building events, and ranged from between 50 to more than 200 participants. The events took place in Brussels, Rotterdam, Florence and Maredsous. I was also involved in the preparation and hosting of the Open Day at the EU Commission 2016, having to manage the program of the day and keeping all visitors informed and engaged on the unit’s work.

User Access Management

Sofia

By being part of the User Access Management team of HPE I had the chance to improve my technical and digital skills and get an insight on how different systems and tools operate. I was also able to improve my language and communication skills as I was mainly working for a German client (ThyssenKrupp). I learnt how to process requests for varied services (user and internet access, email creation and security consoles). The process of granting security access to specific platforms via hardware and software tokens required great care, as it involved not only personalized and strictly confidential details but also a procedure of adjusting settings and arranging the delivery of necessary hardware with colleagues in Germany. Another useful learning was how corporate communication flows and what rules need to be observed in working for a big international company. I was trained in a number of fields, related to security and confidentiality of information, tracking work records, incident and change management. I was also actively participating in the developing and testing of a program meant to facilitate the team’s work.

Intern

Sofia

The internship at the Atlantic club of Bulgaria (ACB) was part of my MA studies in Media, Communication, Culture. I was responsible for content creation and translation. I was responsible for the research of information on Work and Travel Program for Bulgarian students in the USA and putting together a Bulgarian and English version of a website on the subject. I was also in charge of the translation and graphical re-design of a brochure promoting digital society. The promotion of a project on having a work space in the nature was my task as well - I had to create content to advertise the event on Facebook, Twitter and the official website of ACB, as well as compose emails to possible sponsors in order to stir their interest in the initiative. I was also responsible for the translation of several official documents and reports as well as part of the web site of one of the ACB’s initiative on digitalisation of the Bulgarian society.I consider my experience at the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria a useful insight into how an NGO works and what the possible benefits and challenges in working within a small team of less than 10 permanent employees are. The skills I was able to develop were content writing, editing, archiving and interpersonal communication.

Press Centre Intern

Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Of The Republic Of Bulgaria

Sofia

Doing an internship for the Press Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria was part of my MA in Media, Communication, Culture. The internship was extremely useful for me as I was able to not only learn about internal communication but also about the way state institutions function in Bulgaria. Another key learning was on ways to stay informed and what sources were to be considered trustworthy and reliable. Оn a daily basis I was responsible for following several influential Bulgarian information agencies and compiling a media digest, which was circulated around the institutions twice a day. Another responsibility I had was gathering information about Bulgaria in the foreign media outlets, which was then circulated to Bulgarian embassies and delegations abroad. I was also doing English translations of statements and press releases of the Ministry. A key learning from my work at the Press Centre was handling and prioritizing information based on its relevance for a specific audience.

Media Monitor / Interpreter

Sofia

Working for the long-term observation mission during the parliamentary elections in October 2014 in Bulgaria was my third employment by OSCE/ODHIR. Apart from having the chance to once again cooperate with an international team of professionals, I was able to further develop and reaffirm my communication skills and strategies when it comes to arranging meetings with media representatives, NGOs and Bulgarian state institutions. My day-to-day responsibilities were contacting people who would serve as important points of reference and information sources for the media analyst I was working for. I was in charge of preparing an optimal meeting agenda for him with detailed information on people’s background, meeting location and time frame of the meeting, as well as attending most of the meetings in order to take notes and interpret when necessary. I was also conducting research on the legal framework and regulations of election campaign, i.e. highlighting and translating important and relevant information. Another key responsibility of mine was daily monitoring Bulgarian newspapers, radio stations and TV channels in order to measure and record the time allocated to candidates during the election campaign. During this appointment I had yet another chance to learn about the media environment and relations in Bulgaria and meet many of its prominent representatives.

Sep 2014 - Oct 2014

English Teacher

Sofia

Working for Britanica as an English language teacher was a commitment I appreciated and enjoyed very much. At the beginning of my employment I did a one-month training, conducted by highly skilled experts in teaching and interpersonal communication. During this training I had the chance to acquire skills essential for the teaching profession and not only: effective communication with students and parents, handling information, flexibility, improvisation on the spot and dealing with varied types of learners. During my employment I was involved in regular training sessions aimed at improving my performance as a teacher and counselor.I worked with teenagers (13 - 17 years old) and was teaching levels A1 and B1, with special attention to strategies and key knowledge to pass KET and PET Cambridge certificates. According to the end of year reports, I had a very high re-enrollment record, with around 90% of my students signing up for another year at the school, which I consider a great professional success for me. While working at Britanica Ltd. I had numerous tasks which combined the role of a teacher, administrator and communicator. My day-to-day responsibilities included lesson planning and teaching, working one on one with struggling students, checking homework and written assignments, conducting mock PET/KET exams, keeping detailed record of students’ performance, maintaining good communication with parents, decorating the school and planning festive lessons and events for the students. I was also part of a 10-day summer camp, during which I took care of a group of 10-year olds on a 24/7 basis, having English, art, sports lessons and other outdoor activities. What I am taking away from this employment is a sense of commitment, high responsibility, the value of team work and manager-employee support, ability to multi task in an extremely dynamic environment, attention to detail and most of all the pleasure of working with people, teenagers in particular.

Jul 2012 - Mar 2014

Media Monitor/ Interpreter

Sofia

The long term observation mission during the pre-election campaign in Bulgaria in 2013 was my second employment by OSCE/ODHIR and first in the core team of the mission, based in Sofia, at the media unit. I had the chance to enter a completely new field of work and get acquainted with the media environment, regulations and legal framework of pre-election campaigns in Bulgaria. While working for the ODHIR mission I was also in my last year at university, doing a BA in English Philology, and also working as a part-time English teacher at Britanica – a situation which made prioritizing of tasks, time-management and hard multitasking extremely important for managing all of my responsibility – a challenge I dare to say I overcome extremely successfully. My day-to-day responsibility with the mission was to provide administrative support for the media analyst in terms of finding useful contacts, organizing meetings, attending them in order to interpret and take notes as well as translating media laws and regulations from Bulgarian into English. I was also monitoring media outlets in order to measure and record the time allocated to candidates in the media during the pre-election campaign. This employment was to a great extent the reason why I decided to seek opportunities to work in the media and communications sector, hence my decision to enroll in an MA in Media, Communication, Culture. What I learnt from this one month period while balancing between university studies, working as a teacher and being part of the ODIHR mission was to not be afraid to work hard and really put myself out there.

Apr 2013 - May 2013

Administrative Assistant

Sofia

Working as an administrative assistant at InterSpace Association was my first long-term commitment in a professional sense. I was responsible for archiving work documents and materials, processing invoices and writing short reports. I was also involved in the preparation of an art project application by InterSpace and was responsible for seeing through the whole process – from preparing and filling in the application forms and gathering the necessary legal documents to submitting all the materials to the relevant institutions. I was in contact with various representatives of state institutions, the private sector and NGOs while taking care of the association's activities. This employment was a good opportunity to learn how state institutions worked and how to most efficiently get something done by the relevant institutions. I had the chance to develop my communication skills and learn how to be more persistent and confident in accomplishing goals.

Sep 2010 - Jul 2011

Assistant/Interpreter

Pleven

Right after finishing high school I had the chance to enter the job market by being employed by an international organization to do an extremely dynamic and demanding job as part of a long-term observation mission within OSCE/ODIHR. I was employed as the assistant/interpreter of a team of foreign observers deployed in the city of Pleven in order to observe the pre-election campaign in the north-east region of Bulgaria. My responsibilities included finding useful contacts and arranging meetings with representatives of the political, state, media and NGO sector, involved in the election process. I attended all the meetings in order to interpreter and take notes, which were later included in a final report sent to the core team of the mission. I also accompanied the observers to several polling stations on Election Day and observed the counting of votes in a local polling station as well as in the Regional Election Section. This employment was my first encounter of life as a young professional and a great opportunity to manage things on my own. I had the chance to meet a number of important people and establish good communication with them, which was extremely beneficial for the team of observers.
