• Receives, organizes, sorts, and processes specimens in the department.• Records the required information in laboratory logbooks, specimen accession sheets, workflow drafts, etc., to ensure quality assurance of specimens and machinery.• Performs simple laboratory tasks of operating equipment, recording data, and specimen storage and retrieval and other clerical duties as assigned.• Prepares reagents for laboratory procedures as directed in the procedure manual and under the direct supervision of a certified technologist.• Maintains department inventory and orders supplies as needed. Verifies delivery order and restocks and/or distributes supplies to the appropriate areas of the lab.• Resolves pending lists, finds missing samples, and maintains files for records.• Reports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment and supplies to laboratory supervisor or lead technologist to ensure timely resolution.

• Process 3,500-5,500 patient nasal swabs daily to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in a CAP-accredited laboratory. • Daily use of various single-channel, multi-channel, and electronic (Integra, Thermofisher) micropipettes due to EUA. • Prepare extraction reagents, along with PCR master mix and positive control using a Tecan Freedom Evo 200 Platform. • Extract patient RNA using KingFisher Flex systems. • Perform RT-PCR with the QuantStudio 12K Flex system. • Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and the XIFIN LIS were utilized to track and update case statuses throughout extraction and PCR. • Assist in the troubleshooting and improvement of efficiency in the processing of patient samples.

• Investigate Ocean Acidification (OA) effects on predator-prey behavior in marine invertebrates. • Conduct statistical ANOVA analysis of feeding assay data to study blue-banded hermit crab Pagurus samuelis behavior. • Assist in the improvement of efficiency in protocols and assays. • Won the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) in 2018 to analyze and present findings on Mycosporine-like Amino Acids (MAAs) isolated from defensive secretions of Aplysia californica as candidate molecules of keystone significance in the marine and intertidal habitat.
