I am a social work clinician and educator with three decades of experience as a social worker in pediatric medical settings.I joined the School of Health Sciences, Department of Social Work at Quinnipiac University in 2014 and am now aa full professor, teaching advanced practice, human behavior in the social environment, evaluation research, social work in health settings, and capstone courses. I also served as a field liaison for the first decade of our program, and am now involved in developing our online MSW program.I am thrilled to be teaching new social workers to be excellent clinicians, advocates, and empowered members of multi-disciplinary teams, through both discipline-specific and interprofessional education.. I am interested in research and program development for both pediatric and emerging adult patients, their families, and healthcare professionals, and advocacy organizations. Special interests include living with illness throughout the lifespan, transitioning from pediatric to adult-oriented care, emerging adulthood, rare & genetic disease. Racism, ableism, sexism, age-ism, etc - all interfere with health equity, so every interaction and research project must be seen through that lens.I believe in providing a family-centered continuum of care throughout the experience of chronic and life-threatening illness, and I seek to support the resilience, self-efficacy, and creativity of young people with chronic illness, and their families.
