Profile bio

About Maya Erin Morales-Mcdevitt

Presently, I am an Environmental Scientist at Gradient where I provide technical support on contaminant fate and transport, exposure, and sampling approaches.I was an ORISE fellow at the EPA ACESD/Narragansett. As part of my duties, I conducted field sampling and analytical procedures to measure per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the aquatic environment. Field based studies include adapting and testing techniques for measuring PFAS especially in sediment and tissue matrices. Part of my research at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography focused on the development of an innovative analytical and field method that aimed to quantify volatile PFASs in indoor and outdoor air and different water bodies. I also deployed passive samplers at different vulnerable human settlements and assess the risk that PFASs pose to them. While studying at Texas A&M University, I focused on studying the aggregation and degradation of dispersants and oil by microbial exopolymers (ADDOMEx) in the Gulf of Mexico. I also worked as an Instrument Specialist at the Geochemical and Environmental Research Group (GERG) and worked with a gamma of legacy contaminants such as PCBs, OCs and DXs, oil, heavy metals, and nutrients.

Listed skills include Oceanography, Chemical Oceanography, Laboratory Skills, Laboratory Safety, and 36 others.
