I was an international urban planner and member of the advisory body of the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), and in 2003, I made a paradigm shift in my professional career and decided to dedicate the rest of my life to transforming our country back to the “sone ki chidiya” days when we were the global leader.Believing that policy reforms empowering the common man can drive transformation, I collaborated with Anna Hazare on the Maharashtra RTI and worked on numerous governance reforms.Finding reforms and policies inadequate to change our nation’s fate, I along with Arvind Kejriwal and Anna Hazare initiated the India Against Corruption (IAC) movement to pressurise the system for reforms. While IAC galvanized the entire nation, more direct intervention was needed, leading to the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).By 2015, realising that instead of transforming the political narrative, the movement was degenerating into a power game, I quit politics completely, believing that "there are more ways to serve the nation, politics was but one path."However, the desire to change the nation continued to burn inside me. I took a leap of faith, sold my house in Mumbai, and started working in some of the worst-hit villages of Marathwada, Maharashtra. This marked the beginning of the Global Vikas Trust (GVT), a grounded and direct service to the real Bharat.Global Vikas Trust (GVT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming rural India, with a mission to empower small and marginal farmers, helping them break the cycle of poverty and achieve economic prosperity. GVT's flagship project is transitioning farmers to fruit tree cultivation, thereby increasing their incomes significantly.GVT works in more than 4,200 villages, covering an area of 35,000+ acres of 27 districts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh impacting 22,000+ farmer families of India. Since 2019, Global Vikas Trust has planted more than 5,00,00,000 trees.
