Maya Puterman is a senior at the Ramaz Upper School in NYC. She is passionate about entrepreneurship empowering teens to change the world through their ideas.Maya has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. When she was in elementary school she would make jewelry, slimes, and duct-tape bags to sell at the beach.She started her first business, Paperecoshop (paperecoshop.com), in 8th grade, where she sells dry-erase reusable stationery to save trees.In 9th grade, Maya co-founded STEAM News (steamnews.org), an e-newspaper for teens focused on getting more teens involved in the STEM field. STEAM News has since reached readers in 100+ countries, has a team of 100+ writers, published 175+ articles, and has opened 6 chapters in schools around the world!In 10th grade, Maya founded Fresh Opportunities (freshopportunities.org), an organization providing students with the resources to reduce food waste at their schools and redistribute meals to food insecure individuals in their communities. Fresh Opportunities teaches teens about food insecurity and mentors them on starting a food recovery club at their schools. Fresh Opportunities provides students with the packaging supplies for free. So har F.O. has worked with 5 NYC schools and 102 student volunteers to deliver 7,000+ meals to NYC community fridges and families in need.Maya is currently working on building Teens Make It Happen (teensmakeithappen.org), the ALL-IN-ONE platform for teens who want to collaborate to make a difference in the world. The organization provides teens with the learning materials they need to start their own businesses, mentorship, virtual networking events and zooms, resources, leadership and volunteer opportunities, a group chat to connect, and so much more!
