I have been a freelance writer and editor since 2000, providing communications support to companies of all shapes and sizes, and for 6 years (2005-2011), in addition to my freelance work, I ran a small catering business. I have loved offering creative nourishment for the clients I've served, and continued to do so through The Creativity Caravan (www.thecreativitycaravan.com), a mobile arts business I co-founded in 2013, leading hands-on, low-tech creative arts experiences for kids and adults, and focusing on process, practice, curiosity, engagement, and self-discovery. After 7 years in New Jersey, I relocated to midcoast Maine in the spring of 2020.I've also maintained a commitment to my own writing practice, and have written and published four collections of my poetry and non-fiction work, as well as a writing guide - "Writing Prompts for Ordinary People" - as well as, most recently, a collection focusing on loss ("Grief Becomes You") and "The Poser: 38 Portraits Reimagined," which includes contemporary portrait recreations and essays. I have always sought out creative adventures to weave into my writing life, and have designed projects that bring writing opportunities to unexpected places. My 2010 "Tour de Word" was a two-month, 12,000-mile driving trip circumnavigating 30 states, during which I led writing workshops for children and adults. In 2012, I launched "Type Rider: Cycling the Great American Poem," riding my bicycle for 40 days and more than 1,200 miles from Amherst, MA to Milwaukee, WI towing a typewriter behind me, stopping daily to gather stories from strangers in the communities I visited. In 2014, my partner and I launched "Type Rider II," a tandem bike ride from Boulder, CO to Beloit, WI that raised money to build Little Free Libraries. ​The motivation behind these and other projects is to inspire people to share their stories, to make writing more accessible – especially to those who don’t consider themselves writers or artists - and to build community through creative action.In 2021, I helped found Toad Hall Editions, a small press focusing on publishing the work of women and gender-diverse writers.
