Senior Strategy Manager

New York, Ny, Us

Currently working as a Strategy Lead for Cover Genius, the global Insurtech for embedded insurance. Our insurance distribution platform processes over 9-figures ($USD) of annual gross written premiums for some of the largest e-commerce companies globally. In 2020, Cover Genius was ranked the #1 High Growth Company in Asia-Pacific by the Financial Times (out of 1,000).My role to date has blended both strategic projects and strategic finance in the absence of a CFO. Key responsibilities include:- Capital raise and investor relations, completed US$10M Series B in 2019 as the co-lead liaison for investors with the CEO, pitching, owning the data room and associated forecasts, pitch decks and collateral.- Commenced US$70M Series C with a top-tier global investment bank prior to my sabbatical. Project was disrupted & delayed due to COVID and closed in 2021.- Distributing bi-annual budgets for the board- Establishing company and department KPIs across the business through consultative analysis- Managing resourcing planning (we have doubled headcount in the last 12 months)- Working with the founders and executives on strategic planning

Nov 2018 - Apr 2020

General Manager (Contract)

Glamazon (Early-Stage Venture)

I had been introduced to early-stage beauty marketplace, Glamazon by their institutional investors following a seed-bridge round.Founded in 2014, Glamazon operated Australia's largest mobile beauty marketplace, with hundreds of freelance stylists engaged to the platform and accepting at-home beauty appointments daily. The business had made promising traction with a strong brand but needed operational, financial and marketplace expertise to scale. I was hired as a GM.With limited resources, this was one of the most challenging projects to date, requiring a combination of leadership and hands-on multi-disciplinary work with broad and undefined scope. The role stretched every aspect of the business, including product and marketing.Since joining in January 2018 we tripled our monthly GMV, reduced unfulfillment rates by ~40%, stabilised legacy tech and maintained a sensible cash-burn. Whilst progress was promising, I decided to leave after 9 months to pursue interests outside early-stage ventures.UPDATE: In late 2019, Urban Company (an Indian e-commerce conglomerate) bought Glamazon's assets to accelerate their launch into the Australian home services market which includes the home beauty vertical. The beauty marketplace model (at-home or salon) remains a challenge (and opportunity) globally. Australia has no clear leader, Rocket Internet has exited all markets including South-East Asia, and well-funded (Series B+) ventures in the UK and US are yet to demonstrate longevity or sustainable marketplace growth.

Jan 2018 - Sep 2018

Managing Director - Vaniday Australia

Berlin, De

Vaniday is an international beauty and wellness B2B2C business, which ran Australia's largest salon bookings marketplace and also licenced a bookings management SaaS to salons and spas. The business was operating in Australia from 2015 with limited success and I was hired to streamline operations, localize our product & marketing and restore growth to secure the next round of funding.Established in 2015 having raised €15m globally, the company was backed by Rocket Internet and was operating in Singapore, United Arab Emirates and Australia with support services in Germany at the commencement of my tenure. Unfortunately seeing accelerated traction in the South East Asian market, the business underwent a major transformation only weeks into my tenure resulting in the planned closure of the Australian, UAE and German offices to consolidate resources to Singapore. In the following months we ran the business as BAU whilst negotiating a deal to sell off the Australian assets to a local e-Commerce conglomerate and eventually winding down operations in Australia.UPDATE: Vaniday continued to operate in Singapore until it announced it's closure in late-2019, unfortunately ending the Rocket Internet franchise which once operated marketplaces in Australia, Italy, UAE, Russia and Brazil.
