What a good question! Four years ago, I would have said "a scientist". I spent my childhood engrained in STEM, prematurely distinguished for my aptitude such that I struggled to understand myself outside of the ascribed label. I slowly pushed the boundaries of this self-conception, exploring new regions and activities to ask myself not only who I was but who I wanted to be. The possibilities were endless until I left for college and "popped" my community's bubble, as I realized both the extent of my privilege and my moral obligation to deconstruct the systems that enabled those inequities. I withdrew from the natural and computational sciences to re-educate myself on the principles pioneered by critical scholars silenced in my early environment. Today, you can find me in places where I'm not wanted but needed, confronting norms that present inequality as rational or inevitable despite the socially constructed identity aspects that underpin it. I'm uncertain of myself beyond the experience that shaped me, though I hope to one day be called a "changemaker" for the support I provide to those revolutionizing our reality. I'm open to anything and excited to see what happens next!
