Among many video game clients, Mr. Mayer has represented clients such as Blizzard Entertainment, Riot Games, Activision Publishing, Valve Corporation, Nexon Korea, and Take-Two Interactive in in a variety of copyright, trademark, and intellectual property-related matters. Some notable matters include successfully defending Blizzard from copyright and right of publicity claims involving characters in World of Warcraft, successfully defending Activision against trademark claims arising from the use of logos and symbols in its Call of Duty games, representing Blizzard and Valve in a copyright action involving the unauthorized use of the games Warcraft III, World of Warcraft, and Dota 2, and obtaining multi-million dollar judgments on behalf of Riot Games, Blizzard, and Nexon against makers of unlawful cheating and botting software. Outside the video game space, Mr. Mayer has represented major record labels in their battle with Sirius XM and Pandora over the use of pre-1972 sound recordings, internet service providers sued for the distribution of user-uploaded content, and motion picture companies in their fight against online piracy.Marc is a frequent author and speaker, and serves in a number of leadership roles in professional organizations.
