Std/Hiv Coordinator
Communicable Diseases Investigator Senior
Responsible for conducting complex communicable disease investigations for newly diagnosed Syphilis and HIV cases, including, congenital Syphilis. Provide mentoring and guidance to less experienced disease investigators in order to improve case investigation techniques and strategies.Review field records and STD/HIV interview records in order to identify gaps in case investigation efforts. Make recommendations to the CDI Supervisor(s) when a case is ready for closure by determining that appropriate medical services have been identified and provided; partners have been identified, contacted, and referred for medical services; and/or that all investigative efforts to locate the individual have been exhausted. Lead a team of Communicable Disease Investigators in performing community outreach activities targeting high risk communities, locations, and events. Participate in planning community outreach activities and identifying strategies to reach targeted communities for testing. Conduct visits to local medical providers (primary care providers, hospitals, family health centers, urgent care facilities) in the community offering current information and guidance on the diagnosis and treatment of STDs and HIV, as well as providing information on disease trends in the community in order to assist medical providers with the diagnosis, reporting and appropriate treatment of STDs and HIV.
Communicable Disease Investigator
Perform confidential investigations HIV and 3 sexually transmitted infections; Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis. Conduct client centered interviews to elicit information about sexual partners/ clusters and offer partner services to notify individuals of possible exposure or potential risk. Offer prevention counseling for STD's and HIV to promote positive behavior changes and reduce infectiousness. Activate referral for treatment or linkage to medical care for STD/HIV. Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure that services are offered across the care continuum for those living with HIV. Complete and maintain detailed case investigation documents for supervisory and Epidemiology review to guide public health activities within the department. Conduct field activities to locate infected or at risk individuals and to complete field delivered therapy of oral antibiotics. Perform community outreach activities and offer testing, education, prevention materials at high-risk venues including local bars, bathhouses, adult bookstores, and pride festivals. Complete training's to gain knowledge and understanding on the local reporting laws related to child abuse, sexual violence, and neglect. Participate in public health emergency response activities as required. Performed public sector Syphilis surveillance activities on positive morbidity reports from providers within Maricopa County. Case write-ups used as examples to educate other department staff on case investigation activities/ techniques. Significantly influenced the implementation of a satellite program between the Public Health Clinic and a private HIV clinic.
Health Surveillance
Coordinate Syphilis, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea surveillance activity for the Public and Private sector providers. Ensure adequate treatment on positive Syphilis test results, initiating Health Department follow-up when necessary. Regularly account for missing morbidity on all STD’s in the ADHS-STD Reporting database. Assist public with general STD questions and facilitate client referrals by assisting with their questions. Communicate with medical providers regarding laboratory results and/or treatment of STD’s in accordance with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines. Develop and implement data collection criteria and implement means of active STD Surveillance within Maricopa County. Maintain STD-Field Services Access database by entering Field Record and Syphilis Interview data and performing continuous quality assurance activities. Perform community outreach activities, which involve registering clients, performing venipuncture, and performing urine testing. Participate in Public Health emergency response actions as required. Assist in clinical services as needed. Ensure providers are properly reporting by performing provider visits.
