Mayra Pereira is the founder of Gaia Consulting and holds 14 years of work experience. She has specialized over the years in renewable energy, environment and sustainability fields. Mayra is an integrated professional with an MSc in Environmental and Geographical Sciences and BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management from the University of Cape Town. In 2017, Mayra was part of an International Training Programme for Strategic Assessment of the Energy Sector held in Sweden and Tanzania.In the energy sector, Mayra has gained experience in research and dissemination associated with market assessments relating to energy access and policy; programme design and due diligence as well as support to enterprises on energy access. Notable projects include the Project for Promotion of Auctions for Renewable Energies (PROLER), the BRILHO – Energy Africa Mozambique (Demand Activation as well as Research and Dissemination Pillars), The Mozambique Offgrid Market Assessment and Global survey of scalable business models for alternative biomass cooking fuels and their potential in Sub-Saharan Africa (Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and Madagascar).In the environment sector, Mayra has been consulting for the public sector and the private sector. Mayra has played a number of roles in several environmental and social impact assessment projects (leadership, coordination of teams, specialist in field areas). Notable projects include the reinforcement of the line between Metoro and Palma as well as the line between Namialo and Metoro; Mayra coordinated the team involved in the impact assessment for the Titimane PV project and the Dondo PV Plant, part of the PROLER project.Mayra has been involved in actively bringing together the research and the policy worlds together, as well as operating at the intersection of business and sustainability. Mayra is the President of the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association, Board Member of Mozambique Renewable Energy Association and a founding member of the Mozambique Women of Energy.
