BAIF’s Mission is to create opportunities of gainful self-employment for the rural families, especially disadvantaged sections, ensuring sustainable livelihood, enriched environment, improved quality of life and good human values. This is being achieved through development research, effective use of local resources, extension of appropriate technologies and upgradation of skills and capabilities with community participation.

Following the Gandhian model of Gram (village) Swaraj, the idea of Energy Swaraj is to involve local communities to generate and fulfill their local energy needs through localized activities of production (depending on feasiblility), assembly, installation, and maintenance of renewable energy solutions.The Energy Swaraj Foundation (ESF) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, non-religious company, formed to establish Energy Swaraj across the world. The motto of the ESF is “Energy by Locals for Locals.” The Foundation has the objective of providing solar energy solutions at unbeatable prices, with unparalleled quality and unmatched services to billions of people across the world. This objective is planned to be achieved through (a) Local capacity building, (b) Simplified, cost-effective but quality technology solutions, (c) Establishing supply chain up to last-mile and (d) Enabling local entrepreneurs to provide solution and services.Targets of ESF till Dec 2030 are:1) 1+ billion people to be made aware2) 100+ million people to be trained3) 10+ million households to bring off-the-grid4) 100,000 Entrepreneurs to be nurtured5) Energy Research and Policy Recommendations to 50 countries 6) 0.132 GT of CO2 Emissions saved for overall sustainability Energy Swaraj AshramThe Foundation is establishing Energy Swaraj Ashrams across the world. It is envisaged that through the active role of these ashrams, households, institutions, communities, and regions can become self-sufficient in generating and fulfilling their own energy needs using solar energy or other renewable energy solutions. Energy Swaraj Ashrams are solar incubation centers in academic institutions. The Foundation, through its experience of Solar Urja through Localization and Sustainability project of IIT Bombay, will provide technology and business development support to selected students and faculty members of the institute and nearby areas to develop them as successful solar entrepreneurs.

Inspired by thoughts of great thinker Swami Vivekananda, a teenage engineering student set out in 1991 to contribute to India’s Progress.In 1993, he started a non-profit Bharat Vikas Pratishthan to funds of poor & needy students, having been through financial struggles himself. His career began with Telco (now Tata Motors) as a graduate trainee engineer in 1995 and his non-profit now started to help rural youth get jobs and livelihood.Destiny supported the enterprising nature of Mr HR Gaikwad, Chairman and Managing Director, BVG & his burning desire to help India’s Progress led to the birth of BVG (Bharat Vikas Group) in 1997 as a housekeeping company with 8 people & 1 client.
