    My work focuses largely on computational models of vision. The present day challenges of computer vision are that models and systems do not generalize well. We try to address this problem by exploring the problem of vision as a sensory system attached to a biological agent that can move. We believe that studying vision as part of sensori-motor systems can help us build more generalizable and realistic models of vision.To this effect, my projects span both models of vision (e.g. joint sensory representation, 3d vision, etc) and other projects that help train such models (e.g. Adaptive Compressed Sensing, Hamiltonian MCMC algorithms, etc).I am interested in developing scaleable architectures that are principled, in that, they mimic the brain's computational abilities. The Redwood center is a fabulous place for principled theoretical work and it is a great privilege to work here.

    Inferring 3D shape from 2D images using differentiable rendering for inference and blendshape models for representations. 2D images as we know them are a combination of 3D shape, lighting and reflectance. Learning to factorize the sources of input not only helps explain the scene better but also helps us make complex inferences and manipulate scenes more effectively.

    My work at blindsight focuses on object recognition systems for the blind and aging. At Blindsight, we have worked on building efficient, principled models of text detection and recognition. Special emphasis was placed on building systems that are useful to the disabled and physically challenged. Our text detection system is one of the most accurate and possibly the fastest text detection system in the wild. Other projects include applying computer vision and machine learning tools to help build applications for the disabled and physically challenged. More information can be found on blindsight's website. Simulations using Python, OpenCV and Matlab are the bread and butter of my work here.

    My work here has been to design and collect data to understand the functional role of the amygdalla. We briefly explored this project using fMRI data. Since SNR in the amygdalla is harder to maximize, a large part of the work involved customizing RF Pulse sequences to gain maximal SNR and collecting data to study the effects of linear summation and repetition in the amygdalla.
