Sr. Thermal & Mechanical EngineerSheetak Inc. Jul 2018 - Jul 2020Austin, Texas, UsLeads the design, build and testing of the cooling system integrated to thermo-electric cooling (TEC) devices used in novel refrigeration applications. TECs, which use specific types of semiconductor chips, are sought to be the future of a large sector of refrigeration and cooling industry as they use no refrigerant (desirable from environmental aspects), and have no major mechanical components such compressors, which reduces the maintenance costs. My responsibilities include: • project management; ensuring the design and project phases are completed on time• design of sub-systems such as heatsinks to enhance heat transfer and COP (coefficient of performance)• design of cooling system integrated to thermoelectric coolers, and constructing the prototype of the cooler• overseeing the manufacturing and build of parts and sub-systems• instrumentation and performing thermal-fluid tests using various instruments and via DAQ systems using LabView• analysis of collected test data, and CFD results, and troubleshooting• submitting regular progress report• incorporating new technologies, techniques and materials in our designs -
Assistant Professor Of Mechanical EngineeringMiami University Aug 2012 - Jul 2018Oxford, Oh, UsI am both mechanical and aerospace engineer with primary specialty in aerodynamics, thermal-fluid and energy systems (over 16 years), and over 4 years of experience in mechanical and structural design. Most of my past jobs required conducting tests and experiments as the main part of the project. Some of the major tests/experiments that I have been involved, used equipment that required assembly, instrumentation, developing test procedures and protocols, operation, data acquisition, validation and diagnosis. A. Research ProjectsMy research spans from experimental to analytical and computational methods. I use Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and the following commercial software: * ANSYS-FLUENT * COMSOL MultiphysicsI have skills in using the following experimental techniques in my work: * Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) * Tracer gas measurement techniques * Infrared thermal imaging * Data acquisition I have designed and built several experimental equipment. I have been the director of the Air Curtain Research Lab. Several students have been involved in my lab for design and build of experimental equipment, and conducting tests in these areas: * A novel hospital bed to protect patients as well as the people around patients against the transmission of infectious airborne microorganisms * Improving energy efficiency of open refrigerated display cases commonly used in supermarkets. * CFD study on the spread of chemical agents over the City of Dubai * Packaging of electronic sensorsI have also studied the application of heat pipes in electronics cooling.B. TeachingI have taught courses in the following areas: * Thermal-fluid * Machine Design * 3D Modeling CAD softwareC. Administrative ActivitiesCoordinator of Mechanical Engineering concentration in the department. My duties are hiring adjunct faculties, scheduling courses, etc. -
Postdoctoral Fellow In Biomedical EngineeringSaint Louis University Aug 2010 - Jul 2012Saint Louis, Mo, UsResearch activities:Experimental: Performing mechanical stress-strain tests on blood arteriesComputational: Simulation and modeling of variations in the geometric arrangement and hyperelastic material properties of arterial wall constituents, and their effects on the transmural mechanical stress. -
Graduate Research Assistant In Aerospace Engineering (Thermal-Fluid Sciences)University Of Washington Jan 2004 - Aug 2010Seattle, Wa, UsI extensively used experimental and computational techniques to conduct variety of long-term and short-term projects as follows:1- Improving the aerodynamics of air curtains in energy systems, using:1-a) Computational simulations: I used commercial program ANSYS-FLUENT for the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis.1-b) Experiments:1-b-i: I used Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to capture the characteristics of air flow in and around the system.1-b-ii: I developed a new flow measurement method using a tracer gas.2- CFD study on the spread of chemical agents in air and soil of a large open field.3- Real time CFD simulation of pulsed detonation rocket enginesSignificant Achievement: Reducing the energy consumption of open refrigerated display cases in average 24%, which upon implementation, can result in hundreds of millions of dollars in the US. -
Visiting Research Scholar In Thermal-Fluid SciencesUniversity Of Connecticut Jan 2003 - Dec 2003Storrs, Ct, UsI worked on the thermal management in fuel cells, using Heat Pipes. I performed CFD simulations using ANSYS-FLUENT software to analyze the cooling capacity of the heat pipes under given conditions. -
