As a postdoc I have been responsible for the daily operation of a quantum gas experiment witha small team of two PhD students and myself. This involves setting the direction for the dailywork as well as coordination of the tasks among team members.Skills developed• Team leading: coordinating work on an experiment among PhD students. Additionally one-on-one training in laboratory work of new students on the experiment.• Longer-term project planning through research and planning of new experimental directions.

During my PhD programme I developed a stable source of Bose-Einstein condensates based ondispersive probing and real-time analysis of images on an FPGA. This source was used to studyfundamental questions on the atom number fluctuations in Bose-Einstein condensates.Skills developed• Practical problem solving during laboratory work, where experiments require broad knowledgeof optics, analog and digital hardware and software development.• Numerical data analysis and simulation.• Teaching and communication through classroom teaching and public lectures.• Scientific writing skills through preparation of publications and a thesis monologue.• Project management of a well-defined research program.• International collaboration with research groups in Hanover and Warsaw.
