In charge of architecture, so if a developer was designing a new system I had to make sure the design met all requirements. It was also my responsibility to make sure best practices were being followed and that the design was both maintainable and scalable. I worked with the engineers to balance any trade-offs in the design and in some cases determine both short and long-term changes.Designed a new product that was a combination of two existing products when neither product fully met the needs of a customer. This included designing to be able to scale to work for other customers while enabling as much re-use as possible. The combined product would use Java, Python, and Google's BigQuery.Improved systems for provider directory management using Java, SQL (Hibernate), and ReactJS. Includes redesigning to remove customer configuration from the code for faster customer changes and a 10x speed up in processing time.Unified authentication allowing both machine to machine and user authentication of all end points by writing a reverse proxy to check authentication using Node.js. This enabled better security of the systems and a consistent check, as before each service implemented security differently.Acted as tech liaison to multiple customers. This included working with customer on designs of any large changes they request to make sure changes meet their needs and investigate any customer issues that arose.

Tracked map imagery collection and ingestion using Spark, Python, Cassandra, and HDFS. I designed and built the communication system for live communication between between the data center and the sensors using Python, Kafka, Cassandra and Node.js. This was used for efficient management of the sensor fleet. Built the data ingestion pipeline that copied collected data to the data center and into an HDFS cluster in a queryable form for downstream consumers using Spark, Python and HDFS.Patent filed for Automatic Disengagement of Sensor Systems to Enable Service Requestor Privacy.Built targeted collection system of internal data to create map edits using Java and Cassandra. This included determining and assigning nearby collection needed. This enabled more efficient and faster data collection by only getting data that was directly needed for an issue.Designed and built storage and communication system for showing riders imagery with highlights at known pickup locations to improve pickup experience. This included automating processing the highlights from editors to formats the backend expects using bash and saved to a SQL database, ensuring the imagery meets size requirements using bash, and storing the image where the rider app can access it. Built the backend for apps to call to get any imagery and highlights using Java.Ingested map data from providers, and converted to internal data format. Pushed the data to production servers for services to use, and tracked internal map edits to reconcile internal edits with those from map providers. Designed and built a system to calculate the percentage of trips impacted by internal edits in order to track impact of the program. Sped up time required to deploy data, and made it automatic to make map deployments consistent and quick to replace bad data. This was done with Cassandra, Spark, and Java.

Built indoor positioning system in C# (backend), Java (Android), and Objective-C (iPhone) for an incubation product (was never released publicly). Granted patent 8,644,113 for Sound-Based Positioning.Performed map imagery data collection and processing to get imagery on the Bing Maps site using C# and SQL. This included tracking where imagery has been collected and planning remaining collection areas. It also included building the imagery in the formats the Bing Maps site uses. Continually worked to improve image quality and time required to process and deploy new imagery.
