I focus my practice on corporate organization, business planning and succession, and trust, tax and estate planning.I provide counsel almost exclusively to entrepreneurs and privately owned enterprises. I works extensively on corporate and business formation and organization matters involving capital structure, corporate governance, and shareholder buy-sell and exit transactions. I also have a strong focus on planning wealth transfer, asset protection, and business succession strategies. My experience in corporate and business law as well as tax and trust planning, provide unique and comprehensive counsel to entrepreneurs looking to grow, protect, and transfer wealth and business interests. I regularly represent entrepreneurs and business entities on an ongoing basis as general counsel, involving matters including: planning and documentation of succession and corporate governance planning for family-owned and privately-held businesses; negotiation and documentation of equity and contract-based shareholder, partnership and joint venture transactions; structuring and documenting private placement offerings and transactions to secure equity and debt financing for privately-held entities; planning and negotiating executive compensation and equity arrangements in connection with business growth planning; acquisitions transactions, and commercial real estate and lease transactions; partnership and buy-sell transactions; and dispute resolution and management of litigation processes and outcomes. In 1991, I established Michael J. Beals, PC, and in 1999 I co-founded Beals Hubbard, PLC. In 2012, I merged my business and trust practice with Howard & Howard Attorneys PLLC. I am an adjunct professor for a Business Planning elective at Thomas M. Cooley Law School and was Chair of the Board of Directors of The First Tee Detroit, Inc., from 2006-2011.

I began my legal career in 1986, focusing my practice on corporate organization, corporate and business planning and transactions, real estate, and trust and estate planning. I provided counsel for established enterprises as well as start up ventures. I also worksed extensively on business succession plans. In 1991, I established Michael J. Beals, P.C., and in 1999 co-founded Beals Hubbard P.L.C.I have become an area-wide expert in corporate organization, business transactions, and succession planning. Throughout my career, I have been retained to develop creative solutions to complex corporate, business and commercial matters. My work includes structuring, negotiating and drafting corporate organization and succession plans, and matters involving contract and equity relationships, business growth and strategic plan development, purchase and sale and commercial transactions. I bring a combination of legal and business management skills to assist entrepreneurs build the proper foundation to grow their business. I insist that lawyers at Beals Hubbard think not just as attorneys, but as partners with the client to understand and meet their needs and objectives. This type of thinking, combined with his emphasis on building long term relationships, results in consistent value delivered to the client.
