Although I didn't know it at the time, it was my fortune that I changed my major to accounting from art as accounting has more career opportunities - and ones that allow my creativity to emerge - than I ever imagined! I actually love the two ends of the accounting spectrum the best - technology that impacts accounting and accounting communications (soft skills). Since I became an accountant, I have continued to delve deeper and deeper into the world of accounting technology. First, I finished the CPA exam. The CIA designation was more for the process- focus (digital transformation) I loved. As an internal auditor at EDS and we would look at the processes in place to ensure that EDS would meet contracted agreements for systems work for companies in manufacturing, transportation and energy. This is when I found that I loved travel, too. I thought I was done when I earned the CISA while as an internal auditor at The Associates where I enjoyed being a lead internal auditor on systems implementation teams. When I transitioned to academia, I found a love for teaching enterprise systems when I was introduced to our SAP courses (which I have taught since 2002). My most recent certification is SAP Certified Associate. Recently, I have been fortunate to work with a talented team of authors for the recent book we have published called: Business Process Configuration with SAP ERP. Living in Shanghai, China allowed me to truly feel the challenges of our international student population and makes teaching accounting communications more rewarding. Past experiences working at the LBTC at LSU allowed me to understand the world of entrepreneurship and better work with the #UTDProConnect initiative in the ACCT 6388 Course. COIL allows students of all backgrounds including the 65% of first gen college students from SHU and 22% of first gen college students from UTD to gain international experience without an additional cost exchange programs have.
