Conducted Economic research as an assistant for Dr. Arman Rezaee. Aides in proposing more research questions in the field of development economics. Conducted research with my mentor in regard to the ability to disseminate accurate health information in developing nations using social networks. Our research utilized data from an experiment conducted by my mentor Arman Rezaee and his time using a voice-based platform called BAANG in Pakistan. The question we are trying to answer is why is it important to disseminate health information through social media which is particularly important in developing countries with poor-quality information systems such as the country of Pakistan. Our research focused on the aspect of high user engagement on social media platforms and its correlation with exposing its users to new health information. We hypothesized that BAANG users on the platform who have more engagement with their posts subsequently engage with the platform more, and are thus exposed to more health information. We created a random engagement variable to see if there is a correlation between engagement and user post activity. We have found a positive relationship between increased engagement and additional minutes listened to health information posts on the BAANG platform. We believe that governments and NGOs can leverage social media platforms to create more engagement around their information to better disseminate more health information. I presented a poster of our research at the URSCA conference at UC Davis in April 2023 and the National McNair conference at UCLA in August 2023.
