This work required in-depth evaluation of data products to determine the quality and usefulness for the areas of interest.• Planned, conducted, and supervised fieldwork that served to refine datasets developed through imagery analysis. • Assisted in the deployment and recovery of instrumentation that was used to collect meteorological data needed to quantify the evaporation and/or transpiration from water bodies and vegetation. • Trained individuals from multiple organizations in the operation of METRIC (Mapping EvapoTranspiration at high Resolution with Internalized Calibration). Training included the acquisition and construction of necessary data inputs, calibration techniques and practical consideration of operating the METRIC Python code, as developed by DRI. • Contributed to the creation of a hybrid land-use dataset for northwestern Nevada, which utilized geospatial data from the USDA Farm Service Agency, high-resolution imagery from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP), and the National Land Cover Database (NLCD). • Manually created a spatial dataset that served to eliminate the influence of clouds from models conducted on Landsat satellite imagery. Visual inspection was required for over 400 images to create the dataset. The final product demonstrated greater accuracy and precision than comparable products created through automatic protocols.• In 2011 was selected to attend the METRIC Evapotranspiration Workshop in Boise, ID. The workshop was provided by the University of Idaho in collaboration with the Idaho Department of Water Resources. The one-week course outlined theory and methods in the application of remote sensing and the understanding surface energy balance to understand and quantify evapotranspiration.
