About María B. Serrano-Abreu
I am passionately driven by methodologies of research and creative ways of knowing, particularly, those grounded on decolonial qualitative research. With approximately 10 years of experience as a social researcher with most of my praxis being done in educational research, I commit to high standards of designing, collecting and analyzing qualitative research. I am highly interested in exploring creative research, arts-based research and visual methodologies.As a cultural educator, I have embraced headwraps as a culturally-grounded education strategy with the aim of promoting racial awareness, Black & Afro-Caribbean racial affirmation as well as collective racial healing spaces. This journey has approached me to the study and designing of antiracist and afro-centered curriculums.As a graduate student, I collaborate in several research projects that aim to explore and implement racial equity as a core value in elemental education, STEM disciplines and program evaluation in the US.
